3 months later

Oct 04, 2009

Had my 3 month appointment last week. I'm 179-down 37 lbs. It's nice to go shopping in my own closet especially for pants and jeans I'd saved in various sizes. Got rid of my size 18 and 16's. The jeans I have on today I bought last September and they were a little tight then, but of course I was going to lose 10 lbs and they'd fit. I only wore them once or twice because they got too small. Now they are baggy after a couple hours. It's fun to go into my closet and "re-visit" all the clothes I hung onto. I've also gone shopping for a few things-need to update.
Food-wise everything is going well. I must have a cast iron pouch-nothing bothers me-at least yet.
People are starting to notice my weight loss, and that is a confidence booster.

Unplugged!

Jul 09, 2009

Had my first post-op appt. today. He took out the JP drain and it feels great to have it out. I'm down 15 lbs since my consult in late May.  Only 3 lbs less than surgery date (9 days ago) but I also had to get rid of the 20 lbs of fluids I retained in the hospital. I can drink protein shakes now in addition to the clear liquids. Really good to taste something different.

I'm feeling better every day. I've lost 15 lbs of fluid I retained while in the hospital.  I managed to get in 58 oz of liquids yesterday and had no trouble keeping them down.  I'm taking less pain medication-usually when I get up and before I go to bed.  Last night my husband and I went to see a movie and today we're watching our beautiful granddaughter.
Life is good!  My first post-op appt. is in 4 days and hopefully he'll remove my JP drain.

Post-Op

Jul 03, 2009

My surgery was uneventful, thank goodness.  My husband and I arrived at the hospital where I was weighed (down 12 lbs from consultation), IV started, etc.  My daughter arrived about 7:15.  A little before 8  I was wheeled into the OR.  And, that's all I can remember.  The next thing I knew, I was in recovery.  Had wonderful care there.  I went to ICU and spent the first night there.  Nothing was wrong.  It's just standard protocol that all gastric bypass patients spend at least one night in ICU.  Pain was minimal-my back hurt more than anything. Pain meds really helped with that.  The next day I was moved to the 2nd floor. I had the swallow test (not near as bad as I thought it would be) and passed.  Was able to have clear liquids then.  Around 9 am two days after surgery my surgeon came in and spoke to me about going home.  I was release around noon.  It was wonderful to sleep in my bed again.  I'm taking it easy but I'm making sure to get in my liquids and to walk around often.
I don't feel hungry nor do I crave anything. I feel so fortunate to have had this surgery!

June 28

Jun 28, 2009

I can't believe that surgery is only two days away. I also can't believe that I am on day 13 of the pre-op liquid diet and except for a weak moment of consuming a handful of microwave popcorn, I have stuck to it.  I am very touched by comments of support left by OH members.  I feel a little alone in this journey right now. I'm really missing my sister and being able to talk to her about my feelings right now.
Tomorrow is going to be a great day!  I have to take magnesium citrate and a poop pill at ten and again at three. So I'm imagining I will stick pretty close to home and spend a lot of time in one certain room.

Pre-ops tests are done!

Jun 19, 2009

My pre-op tests have been completed. All my labs came back okay.  I had an EGD today and my surgeon said everything looked good. He won't know for certain until the labs come back.  Hopefully, everything will be good and my surgery on June 30 will become a reality.
Today is the 4th day of my pre-op diet. It hasn't been as bad as I thought. I'm motivated by reading other's posts and looking at before and after pictures.
