My surgery was uneventful, thank goodness. My husband and I arrived at the hospital where I was weighed (down 12 lbs from consultation), IV started, etc. My daughter arrived about 7:15. A little before 8 I was wheeled into the OR. And, that's all I can remember. The next thing I knew, I was in recovery. Had wonderful care there. I went to ICU and spent the first night there. Nothing was wrong. It's just standard protocol that all gastric bypass patients spend at least one night in ICU. Pain was minimal-my back hurt more than anything. Pain meds really helped with that. The next day I was moved to the 2nd floor. I had the swallow test (not near as bad as I thought it would be) and passed. Was able to have clear liquids then. Around 9 am two days after surgery my surgeon came in and spoke to me about going home. I was release around noon. It was wonderful to sleep in my bed again. I'm taking it easy but I'm making sure to get in my liquids and to walk around often.I don't feel hungry nor do I crave anything. I feel so fortunate to have had this surgery!
