I have always been over weight by at least 20 pounds, however I started gaining when I became pregnant with my now 10 year old son. Two months bed rest with steroid shots does not a skinny pregnant woman make. After he was born I just continued to gain more and more. When my first husband died, our son was 5, I lost quite a bit of weight, and over the next 3 years I had lost around 100 pounds. Then I quite smoking and remarried. The weight came right back on plus about 15 more of its nasty little friends. I tried diet after diet and pill after pill. When I told my husband this past fall that I was going to give it one more good try then find a doctor he was not supportive of the idea of surgery. However when he saw that after the pills were stopped I just started gaining the weight back he was on board 100% I was terrified how my son would take it, everyone he had ever known go into a hospitaldid not come back out. When I told him he was scared, but when I explained what it would do he just asked if that meant if I would be able to play like we used to. I never was sick and I didn't have the comorbidities that most people have, I was starting to have swelling in my feet and legs and cuts healed alot slower than before. I decided to have the surgery now before I had other illness's to decrease the risk and anyway I had been fighting fat all my life, I didn't see no other way to win the battle.
