I am 53 years old, been married for 32 years and have a 22 year old daughter (who, fortunately, does not have to battle with her weight--did not get that from me).

I have battled my weight since kindergarten (I had my tonsils out and it went from there).  I have done Weight Watchers (the first time in 1971 when I was a Junior in High School with a friend when you had to make your own ketchup).  I have done the Oprah diet back in 1989 and lost 120 pounds in 6 months.  Keeping it off was not a success.

Ever since then, I have been able to lose maybe 50-60 pounds and just stall.  I would get discouraged and gain that back and even more.  I came to the conclusion that this was going to be the tool I need and even though I am the main person in my department, I had to come to the conclusion that my health is more important.

What drove me to seek out Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin and Dr. Chaing in my weight loss journey was an ad after Christmas.  I immediately called for an appointment before even going to the info session.  I started making my appointments the very next day and by June 4th, I had approval from United Health Care.  They were impressed with the speed.

I went to the nutritionist on June 18th in preparation for my date of July 9th.  The date was perfect because I turned 53 on July 3rd.  Dr. Chaing told me the celebatory food would still be there next 4th of July.

I'm working on forming a new relationship with food.  Stuffing my face with chips after my boss yells at me or something along that line will not change it and only hurts me.  I am working on stating my feelings more and if that is an issue for someone, that is too bad.  I make an effort always to articulate it without pointing fingers or being derogatory.

I will be blogging my progress.  No photos yet-though.
