I was 331lbs when I decided to have my gastric bypass. I was always tired and in pain. My occupation is EMT. My weight made it very difficult for me to kneel down and lift patients.
My life changed completely on 9-14-04 when Dr. Marvin performed the gastric bypass. I was so excited the day of the surgery. Dr. Marvin made it so easy and comfortable for me. The surgery was 3hrs and 2hrs after recovery i was walking to the restroom without any pain. I was expecting to have severe pain, but I didn't. The next morning the nurse wanted to give me a sponge bath! I asked the nurse to show me where the showers were located. Yep! I took a shower. The nurses were so compassionate, and very caring. I'm in the medical field also, and where I come from our nurses aren't caring. I was discharged 3 days after the surgery with no complications. The first month I lost 38lbs. Around the third and fourth month I thought I was going to be bald. It didn't happen. At 6months I had lost 110lbs. My one year weight loss had been 220 lbs.
It's been three years, and i'm on my ideal weight. I can tolerate any types of food. Be careful cause your actually back to normal you still have to watch what you eat.
