3 days out

Dec 13, 2009

Well, today is Sunday the 13th, 4 days post op.  Have been very uncomfortable but have started passing gas and it's helping.  Someone asked how the trip home from the hospital was - it was awful.  Kept trying to hold onto my midsection but every bump we hit shook everything.  Very painful trip home.

Didn't take any pain killers yesterday but took a dose this morning because of midsection pain.  Helped a lot.  Hope to sleep through the night tonight.  Up three times last night.  Managed to get in 80 grams of protein and 40 oz. of liquid today.  Had a little applesauce.  The meds from the doc are awful tasting (have to crush) so taking them in apple sauce helps.  Think I'm doing well so far.  Flintstone vitamins are easy to chew and swallow alone.  Haven't started calcium yet.  I'll add those in next few days.  Couple of big bruises around cuts on belly and a big bruise on wrist where first i.v. was inserted.

Visiting nurses called to visit today but called them back and said not to bother.  My husband is taking very good care of me so didn't see the point of having them visit.  They asked if I was doing the blood thinning shots in the belly.  When my husband said yes, they seemed okay with not visiting.  My hubby is a very big help, giving me my shots twice a day and making sure I am on target with my protein and liquids.

At this point I am wondering if I made the right choice.  Except for some belly pain, I am still fat and not feeling any different.  Not sure what I expected.  Because I am only having liquids and soft foods, I wonder if I could have just done it on my own.  These thoughts are not valid because I have been going up and down with this weight for 30 years.  But you always wonder if you really needed to do something so drastic.  I just read today on obesityhelp.com about a mini gastric bypass.  Not as invasive as GP and reversible.  Ah well, it's the usual buyer's remorse syndrome.  I needed to do this now for myself.
