So this has been an interesting journey. After meeting with my surgeon in May I started going through the approval process and ran into a small snag - my chest x-ray came back with a suspicious spot, so I had to have a CT scan done. Well, the CT showed enlarged lymph nodes in my chests, which I was told could either be lymphoma(!) or sarcoidosis. I had to have surgery in early June - now have a lovely two-inch scar on the base of my throat - and a biopsy came back positive for sarcoidosis. It's something the doctors will watch, hopefully it won't cause much trouble. Many people recover without even needing meds. I figure as long as it isn't lymphoma I'm ahead of the game...but just going through that scare did help me become even more convinced that I need this surgery. I want to do whatever I need to do in order to be as healthy as I can be, and losing this weight is so important.

So, my RNY surgery was done on July 27th 2006, and I had absolutely no complications. As I write this, I'm six months out and have lost almost 100 pounds. I feel great - have started exercising, and I have a ton more energy now. In October, I moved from CT to Syracuse, NY and my husband and I bought a house together. Life has just been amazing since the surgery...I feel like for so many years my body was huge and my world was small, and now it's the opposite!

It looks like I have another surgery ahead, though - I just found out that I need to have my thyroid removed. I have a large nodule that appears to be cancerous, so it's got to come out. I'm not worried, though - I have a great doctor, and if it is cancer it's a very treatable (is that a word?) one.

So that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. :)
