5 1/2 months out and ahead of the game

Apr 28, 2007

Well fellow OH members. I am sorry I haven't been on much lately but it's because of a good thing. I am out in the world like never before!!! I am 5 1/2 months out and have lost 91lbs so far. 7 more lbs and I can officially say I am in the 100's!!!! This weight loss has given me energy like never before and people treat me better already!! I went to my follow up the other day and my BMI is now down to 33...whoo hoo!!! I just want to thank all of you for all your love, support, and encouragement!! Soon I will be back online more but right now I am living in Chicago doing a consulting project for about another month or so. I do not have my computer at the house I am staying at in Chicago but when I am finished with that project I will be back on to give away what was so freely given to me!!!!

3 1/2 months out

Mar 01, 2007

I haven't updated in quite some time....nor have I posted on the forum. I go there from time to time and just lurk around. I feel a ton better but I am stuck at about 70lb weight loss for about 3 weeks. I don't run out of breath nearly as easy and I can move around much better. I am wearing clothes I haven't worn in over 4yrs. My only problem is the fact that I don't dump so it's really up to me to choose healthy foods. I only eat about 1/4 of what I used to so that is good. I have serious problems eating enough protein because the shakes make me ill, so I have been eating quite a bit of meat or beans and trying to stay away from carbs. I doooo miss my food tho. I notice that when things are stressful or make me upset I go straight to the fridge and eat something quick and then I get sick. This is not a good thing but I am addressing it at my WLS support group. I had a rough first month but I wouldn't go back for the world

6 weeks out and feeling wonderful

Dec 14, 2006

The pain finally subsided and I still don't know what it was but thank god it's gone. I am 6 weeks out now and feeling great. I have soo much energy and can't slow down. I have walked 4 days in a row now on the treadmill for 20 min each time. I already don't feel so wasted tired from it. I am looking forward to seeing my family at Christmas to see if they notice the 42lb weight loss so far. They probably won't notice too much because when you start at 298....42 aint much but I can sure tell. My ankles are already back. (sorry bout this next statement) I can use the restroom much easier!! I am just so grateful. My only complaint is that I am having are hard time eating as much as I need to...and my options seem slim sooo I am keeping my eye out for good things to eat on the forums.

Still in pain but finally going to the doctor

Nov 28, 2006

Well I am 26 days post op and down 35lbs. I am eating well and moving my bowels okay too. Although I stil have the shooting pains followed by a fire feeling in the same spot. I have been taking pain medication more that I would like to but it seems to be my only help. It doesn't take the pain away but it does take the edge off. I finally got an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow so I am hopeful that I will get some answers seeing as I have been to the ER 3 times.

On a good note this past Saturday I attended a WLS support group. Usually support groups are only designated to that particular surgeon's patients but my personal one-on-one counselor that I have been seeing for years personally asked the doctor himself if I could attend. I really felt at home by being with people that understand. In fact I am bringing by best friend to the next one that is 3yrs post op because there are peope there from 1 week out to 5yrs post op and I feel that this is a great way to stay on track. I can't wait to attend my next one.

shooting pains

Nov 17, 2006

Well I had to visit the ER last night due to shooting pains about one inch to my left of my belly button and one inch up. I went to my first follow up appt and told them about the pains but they told me that it was more than likely the drain irritating me bigtime and once removed it would only get better. Well I had it removed and about an hour out of the city (i live 2 hours from my hosp) I had the pains so bad we had to pull over. It seems to subside when I stand or change positions. So I called my doctors office and they said I could either come back for a CT scan or go home and rest and see if it improved which i chose going home. I was tired because of no sleep at all the night before. Anyways...the nurse made me promise I would go to the ER locally if it got worse. I did the next day and they did the CT scan where I had to drink 2 huge bottles of this flavored Barium stuff. I said to the guy.."are you nuts? do you realize my stomach is the size of a walnut?" He said no biggie i had 2 hours to drink it and to just do the best I could. Well I drank almost it all. I had the CT scan and they took pictures while they injected this dye in my IV. That felt really weird. It makes you feel super warm, metal taste in your mouth, and like you are peeing your pants but it went away just as fast as it came. The results............I was fine...everything was working as it was supposed to. I knew they were gonna say that because I have been eating fine, drinking fine, and pooping fine sooo they also said...it's probably just the irritation from the drain. Go home, rest, and let it heal. Take it easy!! Here's a couple vicodin!! OKay since you insist! LOL Anyways...I still have the pain but if i go really slow and don't move too fast I won't get the stabbing part of the pains. But on a great note....I am down 28lbs in 14 days!!!!

8 days & feeling better

Nov 12, 2006

Well here I am on the 8th day and I am feeling alot better. I am getting all my fluids in and yesterday got up to 44grms of protein in! It's a work in progress. I spent 3 hrs riding around in the motorized shopping cart at the grocery store yesterday reading every label. I found protein in things I never thought I would so then I started just looking at it all!!! I did do some dusting and wiping down everything in my house and I have a HUGE house and I over did it. So now I have to take some pain medicine which I didn't for 2days. Oh well...now I know to take it a little easier!!

6 day post op and feeling shooting pains

Nov 08, 2006

Well I am 6th day post op and still in a ton of pain but mostly when moving or eating. It feels like I am being stabbed in the upper leftside of my abdomen. The first two nights home I had a low grade fever of 99.8 and 100.1. only at night..and I am normally a 97.5 degree girl. The nurses were concerned of leakage due to the pain and the fever. No fever last night though. The shooting horrific pain was first felt when sqatting  (not bending) down and trying to stand back up. It felt like I pulled something BAD!!! I have been having this pain now all the time when sitting up or down, trying to roll a bit in bed, and last night I think I experienced my first pouchy ouchy!! On my approved pureed foods which i've been on since day 2 evening, it says I can eat liverwurst so I did last night and i think i ate it too fast and not in small enough bites and I swear the shooting pain was felt for about 20min as if it was having a hard time moving thru my pouch....then in the middle of the night when getting up to pee and empty my drain i drank some water. That one sip hurt too!!! So here I wonder if i gave myself a hernia already or if there is leakage or it's just swollen inside and still sore. I've talked to some early post-ops that said it hurt like hell for a while after surgery and others who said the WLS surgery was quite easy for them. I still need a babysitter here with me for times when the pain comes to get stuff for me or pick up stuff up off the floor cause i dropped everything..lol
Any thoughts or relate to this?

Thank you OH members!!

Nov 02, 2006

Okay.....so I don't post alot on here but I have read EVERY day for over a year. Tomorrow morning at 11:30am I am having my surgery at University of Chicago Hospital and I am calm as can be. I am ready and prepared!! This is due to all of you here on OH!! I went to a class on Monday with about 5 other pre-op people that are having surgery within the next 2 weeks at my hospital and I basically didn't learn anything and they were totally clueless. Why? Because I have OH and they hadn't even heard of it. I have learned soo much thru this website that I was helping my surgeon explain things....I swear!!! All of you (with a very few exceptions) have been wonderful this last year with sharing all your inner thoughts, feelings, mishaps, recipes, accomplishments, failures, problems, and solutions and for that I am extremely grateful!!! I am sooo glad to have all of you!!  For those that posted on my surgery date thingy...thanks for your support. I am bringing the camera and my laptop to the hospital soooo I will still be logging on!!!

Love to all of you and see you on the losing side!!!
