Hello Everyone! My name is Paula Banks, I am 29 (soon to be the BIG 30 in July), I was born and raised in NY but I am now residing in Norfolk, VA for the past 5 years. I started my weight loss journey in May of 2002. That is when I attended the information seminar at Dr Thomas Clarks office In Newport News, VA. From that day on I knew I wanted and needed the Gastric Bypass Surgery. Due to insurance avalability I had to wait until September 2003 until my husbands insurance became active. Once it did, I was ready to go, doing all my test and exams things were moving along great, and then a ROAD BLOCK.. The day before my surgery, they called and told me my Iron was to low and that they could not perform the surgery until it was higher. I as DEVESTATED. This was January 04, and that appointment was made in October 03 so I knew I would not get another surgery date for along time. Instead of crying over it, I got on getting my iron up, I went to a blood specialist, and had a Iron Transfusion. It was done in office, they just hooked me up to an IV and fed my body Iron. Once I got that, the Dr gave me the OK to schedule another surgery date whch as April 28, 2004! That day was truly the day i was reborn. My life has changed so much. I physcially feel better, I can do things i could not do at 390 pounds. I have more energy, I am nore confident, I actually feel sexy which is something I had NEVER felt being almost 400 pounds!! Today, I have a new job that I love, that allows me to spend more time ith my two sons and husband. Life is good! Having the Gastric Bypass has changed my life! From my self esteem to me going shopping, it has touched every corner of my life!
