I had laparoscopic RNY on November 26, 2006 since that time I have lost a little over 110 lbs. I would like to share my story with you. I always thought I was the cutest thing on two legs. One day I took my kids to Carowinds, the local amusement park, to enjoy the roller coasters. As we walked around the park I realized that there were some rides I could not fit into, however I was not discouraged because “I look good”. So we kept searching for one I could ride. We did find one and as they attendant clamped me into the ride I should have known something was wrong because of the snug fit, however “I look good”. So who cares about a little tightness? The ride started and my excitement began to soar as I looked over to see my kids smiling faces, because we were doing this together.
That was the last thing I saw before I heard the word, “Didn’t you know she was too large for this ride”. That was the infamous words from the parametric that was trying to save my life. As the ride started the bar clamped down even tighter causing me to pass out. When I heard those words that “looking good” was not everything. I realized that I had been watching my future play out in front of me as I watched my mom become diagnosed with Type II diabetes, have high blood pressure, and several stokes. I looked at the horror in my kids face as they stood helpless watching as the paramedics worked on me. I made a promised to myself and them right then and there. I started watching my diet, working out, and found Dr. Vollinger. I too was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in that same year which only heightened my determination to loss weight. Which, I am proud to say is now resolved.
