2 months today

Aug 04, 2010

I honestly cannot believe that two months has already gone by since my surgery!  Time has absolutely flown by.  I feel amazing. For once in my life, I know that I will lose the weight that I need to lose and that I will feel even better as I continue my journey.  I can't help but wonder, if I feel this good now, how will I feel when I lose another 28 pounds, or better yet, 100 pounds.  I am so excited about what my future holds for me!

I never re-started my blood pressure medicine after surgery which I am extremely grateful for.  Unfortunately, I am on more medicines now than before surgery, but I know this will pass over time.  I went to my monthly support group meeting last night and after talking to the nurse, I will be starting Carafate for the nausea.  I know of this drug and it really does do good things, so I am kind of excited to start it and hopefully put an end to the nausea.  Carafate coats the stomach and helps with any ulcers.

Other than that, everything is pretty much the same.  I am lucky that I can seem to eat anything I want so far.....well, at least everything I've tried.  I haven't tried any sugar and have no desire to.  I don't care to know if it makes me sick or not since I hope to keep it out of my diet either way.  This journey for me is all about health.  Don't get me wrong, I want to look good, but just because someone looks good on the outside, doesn't mean everything is looking good on the inside.  So, for me, true success will be eating healthy, living an active life, looking healthy, and not going back to unhealthy old habits.

Good luck everyone with your own journey and I hope everyone is doing great and feeling wonderful!!  :)

Wow, where has the time gone.  Tomorrow is two months for me since I had my surgery.  It honestly doesn't seem like it has been that long.  A few things have changed for me:
1. I went down a pant size
2. I have lost 28 pounds (wanted more, but I'll take it)
3. Don't feel as tired, as long as I take my vitamins
4. Feel better about how I look
5. Can cross my legs when sitting

More things have probably changed, but these are just a few that came to mind.  I am so glad that I had the surgery!  I now just wish I could have done it soon.  I still feel nauseated a lot.  It got better, but now I am having it occur more and more, but I really am getting use to it.  When it happens, it is just for a little bit and if I'm home, I lay down for a few minutes and then it passes.  I know that my new stomach is still adjusting and I hear the first three months are the hardest so I don't let it bother me.  I know it will get better in time.

I need to post pictures.  I have been taking them, but just need to take the time and post them.  My English class will be over Sunday and then I'll just have one class left this summer.  Maybe after Sunday I will post some pictures.  I'll have more time then.

I am now allowed to eat anything but I haven't tried raw vegetables yet.  I guess I am a little afraid to.  Not sure why though.

I have to be honest, I don't drink protein drinks like I should.  They still make me feel sick so I have been concentrating on eating protein.  I know I am not taking in 100 grams a day but I do about 50-55 a day.  I take my vitamins most days and am feeling pretty good.  On days that I am feeling sick and don't take my vitamins, I feel it the next day by being tired.  Other than that, I am doing great!

I hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying their summer!  :)

Okay, so I thought I should start taking the Hair Skin and Nails supplement to help decrease the amount of hair I might lose.  I went to The Vitamin Shoppe and bought a bottle of their brand.  When I got home I was excited to take it......until I opened the bottle.   That was way up there with one of the worse smelling things I have ever smelled.  I will not be taking that.  I will look for something else.  If anyone is using one that doesn't smell bad, let me know.  Otherwise I might just buy plain biotin.  :)

Okay, so I had a wow moment today.  I didn't even realize it was happening at the time.  While sitting on my couch today, I was actually crossing my legs.  I was shocked when I realized it was happening.  This happened on two separate occasions today and both times I was like "wow" I can't believe I am doing that!

I can't thank my son enough today.  I was kind of tired and trying to decide if I wanted to go to the gym or not and he told me we had to go.  He said that he is my drill instructor.  You know, that might be just what I need.  While I was there, I was so thankful that I went.  I walked two miles and felt awesome after.  It sure makes me feel good mentally after.  I really enjoy going so I'm not sure why it is so hard to get there.   I always have a thousand reasons why I shouldn't go.  And believe me, they aren't good ones. lol

This week I was able to get into a pair of jeans that I haven't worn in awhile.  The last time I tried them on, they were still too tight but this time, they fit great.  That was sure a good feeling!  :)

Today is six weeks for me since I had my surgery.  I am feeling great.  I am still nauseated at times, but I have gotten use to that and it doesn't bother me anymore.  It doesn't last long and I feel good more than I feel bad so all is good.

I haven't lost much lately.  I'm not sure why since I am very careful with what I eat.  I know I'm not taking in enough protein yet, and I don't take in 64 ounces a day so maybe that has something to do with it.  I'm not sure.  I eat as much as I can and I do drink at least one protein drink a day.  Lately I have tried to increase that to two a day.  I did go to the gym today and plan on continuing that which I think will help.  It has just gotten way too hot outside (110 and up a day now) so I guess I have to move to the gym.  I actually really enjoyed it though.  On the treadmill, I can keep better track of how much I am walking.  I needed to add a PE to my school schedule next semester so I added weight lifting.  I can't wait.  I love lifting weights.  This will be great, I'll finish my PE requirements and get in shape with weights all at the same time.

My mom and I are going on a cruise next month so I am hoping to drop a size before then.  I think I can do it.........I hope.  lol

Everything is going great and I am feeling so good!  I wish I would have done this sooner!!  I am still amazed at how easy everything has been.  I am so thankful for that!  :)  I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer.  :)

I felt like a new person yesterday.  I wasn't nauseated once.  I ate, not a lot, but enough and I wasn't sick at all.  I didn't have to lay down because I felt sick, so I was such a happy camper.  I think taking the extra medicine did the trick.  I hope it continues.  :)

Happy 4th of July Everyone!!

Today is exactly one month for me.  I am doing good and very glad I had this surgery.  There is no way I could have lost 20 pounds in one month on my own.

The only issue I seem to be having is nausea.  It is happening more and more and I am starting to think I have a marginal ulcer.
When I saw the nurse the other day, she mentioned it but I didn't believe it.  Well, I started to pay attention to how often it happens and I now think she is right.  Yesterday I tried to drink a shake and that made me soooo sick.  I was in bed for several hours after that.  So, I took her advice on my medication and am hoping that it helps.  I read about how everyone is eating at one month out and I am nowhere near that due to the nausea.  I didn't think much of it before, but now I am thinking I need to do something since I can't get in enough protein.  I am starting to feel kind of tired so it is time to get aggressive with my health.  :)

Other than that, everything is going great!!  I am so excited about what the future holds for the new me!  I can't wait to see myself in six months.

I hope everyone is doing great and enjoying their holiday weekend!  :)

I have been doing so good with not actually getting sick, until today.  I can no longer say that I haven't gotten sick.  I had some left over fish, thinking I could take in a little more protein and I'm not sure what happened.  I'm not sure if it was a little too dry, or if I didn't chew it enough.  I try to chew a lot so I don't think that was it and last night it didn't bother me when it was fresh, but today was a different day.  Well, now I know what that is all about.  It really isn't much fun.  lol  If you haven't done it yet, there really are some things in life that you don't have to try for yourself.  :)

When I weighed myself this morning, I was down a little over 19 pounds.  I so want to hit 20 by Sunday.  I hope I can do it.  :)

I hope everyone is doing great!!  Have a fun and safe weekend!!  :)

Tomorrow is four weeks since my surgery.  I still can't believe I had it done.  I never really had much discomfort.  I am really happy for that.  The only time I can tell I had it done is when I try to eat.  I'm never really hungry, and the smallest amounts of food totally fill me up.  My protein is still wayyyy tooooo low!!  It is so hard to take it in.  I'm lucky to get in 25 grams in a day.  That is a far cry from the 100 that I should be taking in.  I really don't want to lose my hair.  :(  I recently started my third phase of eating which is nice.  I cooked some cod today and had that for the first time.  It was soooo good!!!  When I saw the piece, I thought I could eat the whole thing....then I decided I could eat half of it......well, I ended up eating a quarter of the piece.  So, that wasn't very much, but it tasted good and I am hoping to have a few more bites later tonight.

Last week I went out to dinner and had wonton soup.  It was sooo yummy!!  I ate the one shrimp that was in it and the broth.  I left the rest, but I really enjoyed the flavor so I was a very happy camper.  :)

I still haven't thrown up, so all is good.  :)

As of today I have lost 18 pounds.  That isn't too bad I suppose.  I am looking forward to a lot more though.  :)

I hope everyone is doing great!!  Happy 4th of July!!  :)

3 Weeks

Jun 25, 2010

Today is 3 weeks since surgery and everything is still going great!  The only trouble I have is eating.  Nothing ever seems to sound good and I hate the full feeling I get when I do have something.  I have tried a protein shake that I liked a lot prior to surgery, but now it is just way too sweet.  My protein intake is way too low so I know I need to try and up that.  I am pretty good with my vitamins, so that is a good thing.  I am being really careful as to what I eat and haven't thrown up yet.  Yay!!  Even though I'm hardly eating, my weight loss is really slow at this point.  My clothes are getting looser so I am happy with that.  I have lost almost 17 pounds now.  It's a start.  :)
