I have been overweight my entire life.  I've yo-yo dieted since I was about eight years old!  I've tried Atkins (lost 60lbs, but gained it back), Calorie-counting, Diet pills (Redux, Phen-fen, Phentermine), Weight Watchers and various other diet centers.

My highest recorded weight was 436lbs. in October of 2012.  This is when I decided to pursue weight loss surgery.  I have several problems related to my obesity:  obstructive sleep apnea, degenerative joints of the knees, lower back pain, and diabetes type II.

I didn't have a boyfriend until I was 24 years old.  He turned out to be abusive; physically and emotionally.  I was engaged to him, and felt that I didn't deserve better.  Finally I realized I didn't need him and broke away from him.  I dated one other man in my early 30's, before I met my husband.  He turned out to be too clingy and I had to get a restraining order against him to break it off!  Then, when I was 35, I met my husband.  He is my best friend and means the world to me!  We have been married over seven years.  We don't have children, but we have plenty of "furbabies."  We have three cats, two dogs, and a guinea pig.  He loves me as I am, but supports my choice of having weight loss surgery.  I'd like to go out and do things with him, rather than sit at home just watching TV.  My bad knees cause me to have mobility issues, so I don't get out much.

I am on SSDI and even though I have my husband's insurance, it will not cover anything obesity-related.  I do have Medicare as my secondary insurance, which will cover most the costs of the surgery.  For that, I am thankful, as I wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise.

I met with Dr. Gould, a bariatric surgeon, from Froedtert Hospital in Milwakee, WI, on 10-24-2012.  He said I had to get under 400 lbs. before he would do the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on me.  I chose the VSG, because I don't want the malabsorption related to the RNY or the DS.  I am not a candidate for the lap-band nor do I want to have a foreign object in my body.  I have had my sleeve gastrectomy as of February 18th, 2013 at around 383#.  I use MyFitnessPal to track my progress and food intake.  I would love to have more friends here that have a lot of weight to lose, are having VSG done, or have had the procedure.
