Surgery and setback

Nov 17, 2008

Well, I had my surgery on Tuesday, Oct 28th.  Thought everthing went well. Was sent home on Saturday, Nov 1st.  Had no problem getting my fluids down, but couldn't kick a constant fever.  I went back to the hospital a week later and they re-addmitted me for a leak/absyss and had to go back into surgery to remove the absyss.

On Fri, Nov 7th, I had revised surgery, removed the absyss, put 2 draining tubes and a feeding tube and was not allowed to eat or drink anything by mouth.

Here it is Nov 17, I'm currently in a rehab center still getting daily antibiotics to kill any potential infection and still getting fed through the tube.  Hopefully, I'll be able to start drinking water by mouth today.  I go see Dr. Sonpal on Monday, 24th in hopes that the tubes and staples will be removed and I can start the stage 1 RNY diet again.

Thanks,

Tomorrow's the day

Well, tomorrow is the day of surgery.  I am soooo nervous but excited to get this journey underway.  My biggest fear is the fact that I have never had any kind of surgery and this being my first, I just don't know what to expect.

I do have complete confidence is Dr. Sonpal and St. Vincent's.  They are one of the premier Bariactic centers in the US.  I love the fact that I will have my own room and have nurses that deal specifically with weight loss patients.

See ya when I get back from surgery.

Surgery, one week from today

Oct 21, 2008

Well, down to the wire.  One week from today I'll be at the hospital prepping for surgery.  Its getting sooooo close, it is really starting to feel real.  I'm really excited to begin my new journey but at the same time, terrified.  I know my dad will be watching over me while in surgery, so I'll be ok.

See ya on the other side.

Stress Test rescheduled - Pre-Op testing

Sep 18, 2008

Well, I went to the Dr. to see about my bumb ankle and had to get an MRI on it.  Turns out I have damage to the ligaments and have to see a foot and ankle specialist.  I haven't had any pain since I went, but it worries me that I am deficient in something that would cause this.  Problem is, the specialist was supposed to call me to set up an appointment, never has.  I've been too wrapped up in work and getting this stress test completed so I can finally get a surgery date.

Went to go for my stress test on Sept 8th.  Went to St. V's and the person that was to administer the test stated anyone over 400 Ibs could not be supported by the camera.  WTF, this is the Bariatric hospital that is conducting my surgery and they can't accomidate anyone over 400 Ibs, doesn't make sense.  Anyhow, I called the Cardiologist and she explained that the regular person administering the test was out and this person was ill informed.  She was going to talk to the hospital and call me back.  One week later, I called back and the Cardiologist stated there is conficting info and she was ticked, still couldn't get me into St. V's for the stress test, now I have to go accross town to another hosp to have it done on Sept 23rd.  Delay's, Delay's.

I talked to Debbie at the surgeon's office and she went ahead and scheduled me for a surgery date of October 28th 2008.  YEAH!!!

I go in for all my Pre-Op testing on October 2nd.  Can't wait to find out everything I need to do pre and post op.

Just got back from my stress test and I got the clearance for surgery on the 28th.  What an ordeal.  After having to cancel 2 times due to weight constraints on the camera. I go to this place and I'm too wide for the camera, so rather than do the injection stress test, they do the standard treadmill test.  Was there for all of 5 1/2 hours, but all came back good.

I go for my pre-op testing at the hospital on Tues, Oct 2nd.  (Mom's B-day!)

Ankle

Aug 19, 2008

Well,  its been a couple of months since my last update, so I figured I better go ahead and post something.  One last hurdle to get through before I start the pre-op testing.  I had to cancel my stress test w/ Dr. Steele due to work constraints and haven't had a chance to reschedule.  Work has been soooo busy, I probably won't be able to get it done until 2nd week of Sept.  If all goes as planned, my surgery will be Oct 28th.

I wanted to start walking more to get myself in better shape for surgery and recovery, but somehow I seemed to have sprained my ankle.  So badly that I cannot even put any weight on it.  I go see my PCP this afternoon, so hopefully, it isn't too bad and I can get back up and running.

My fantasy football draft is this Friday, can't wait.  Drafts are always the funniest part of fantasy sports.  This is gonna be the last time I can eat and drink whatever I want at one of these things, and that kind of makes me sad.  But I know after surgery, I'll be busy with life rather than worrying about food and drinking.

Looking ahead

Jun 23, 2008

Well, I finished up my Psych evaluation, took the MMPI test of 600 questions and all is normal mentally.  Although I do have a slight need for attention, go figure.  Time to move onto the cardiologist and then the pulminary Dr's.  I see the cardiologist on Thur, 6/27.  Will find out what tests I need.  If he doesn't require a stress test, I think I'll request one.  I have been parinoid about heart issues and want to make sure I have the all clear on that issue.  Although I had a stress test back in 2005.

Looks like I'll have to push my surgery date back to October.  I was hoping to get it sometime in August, but I'll be staying at my sisters for the first couple of weeks after surgery and she already has a house full with the kids home from school for the summer, she was hoping September.  Turns out September is gonna be one of the busiest months for me at work, so I'll have to push it back to October.  Oh, well, that gives me three months to ready myself for life after food!

Psych Evaluation

Jun 09, 2008

Well I guess today is as good as any day to start my blogging journey.  Today I meet with the Psych to have my evaluation.  I'm actually interested to see what they have for me.  I think i'm pretty level headed and know what to expect with WLS, but who know's maybe they'll uncover some deep dark secret I wasn't aware I had that will change my life forever.  I also have a sleep study followup on the 12th and have to schedule the cardio workup as soon as possible.  That, I'm a little scared of.  I know right now I could not possibly walk on a treadmill long enough to get my heart rate up to monitor for stress.  My back is soooooo bad I cannot even stand up for more than 2 minutes at a time.
