Catch up & First Fill

Nov 20, 2008

I see that it has been awhile since I last posted.  I had a bad head cold/flu starting around Oct 26th.  With all the coughing and sneezing I was concerned about the gastric band slipping.  After about 2 1/2 weeks, I recovered and started feeling very hungry.  I could eat more than a cup at a time and not the 1/4 cup the dietician said I would eat.  At that point I stopped loosing weight because I thought I might be over eating.  I started taking great care in keeping a food diary which helped me stay between 800 to 1200 calories a day and to my surprise, I was not going over in calories.  I was not walking or exercising though.  Feeling better, I started going to the stores for a walk.  Before surgery, I could only walk through a couple of store aisle and my back pain would be so bad that I would return to the car after handing off some money and what I wanted to buy to a friend.   Last week I shopped 2 large stores in one day without feeling the strain on my back.

I have now lost over 60 pounds since last winter's high, about 30 pounds since starting the 4 week liquid diet pre-op.  I put away my 4x clothing, the larger 3x's are loose/baggy.  I am looking forward to pulling out some clothes that were too tight to squeeze into for my Chrsitmas gift to myself.

I was soooo hungry for the past 3 weeks and not loosing.  So today was my first fill.  Dr. G. had an assistant put 4 cc in my band.  It didn't hurt.  I had a pain shot to numb it and the assistant showed me where my port was.  Surprisingly it was above the larger lap band incission and to the right just slightly.  I was also told to go eat some Macaroni and Cheese.  I haven't had pasta since last August before the pre-op liquid diet started.  So far it must of passed through the band because since driving home (100 miles) I haven't been sick, ate refried beans and cheese, a sugar free fudgesickle, gum, a sucker, sugar free candy and some water.  So far so good.  He wants me back after Thanksgiving for another fill though.

Let's hope the fill gives me what I need to start loosing again.  I am at a dangerous stage.  This is the point where most diets fail for me.  My clothes get roomy, I stop loosing and hit a plateau, and then I start to eat again.  I have a we will see how this goes and will this be another failed attempt.  I sure hope not.

Soft Food

Oct 17, 2008

Started on some Soft foods yesterday.  I am allowed creamy lump free soups, Sugar Free cream sickles, and S.F. fudgesickles, S.F. Puddings  added to my clear liquid and protein shake diet.  So I had tomato soup, creamsickle and fudgsickle.  I took a vanilla S.F. pudding and mixed a scoop of protein into it.  For some reason it made it into a thick liquid but I still ate it.  It was great having new things after being on a liquid protein diet for 5 weeks.  Now I have to start keeping track of calories, carbs, sugar and protein more closely to make sure I do not go over the limits that were set by the dietician.

Gastric Band Surgery Completed 10/8/07

Oct 15, 2008

This is just one week since I had gastic band surgery.  I am still experiencing a lot of pain getting in an out of chairs and bed.  I have a nasty pain under my left rib cage that won't let me take a deep breath without wincing and coughing makes me tear up.  Still trying to figure out how to make changes on this site by fixing the weight chart with proper weights and BMI information.  Saw my primary care doctor today for my week after surgery appointment.  My surgeon's office was 120 miles away and with current gas prices, I passed on that one but wish I could have kept it to see if everything is normal.  My regular Doc loved the fact that I lost 25 pounds in one month because I was on the liquid protein diet for 4 weeks prior to surgery and now on clear liquids for 1 week after it and prescribed more pain killer.
