I've struggled with weight my entire life.  Although I was at a healthy weight in junior high and high school, I was already using food in very compulsive ways to stuff down my feelings.  A teenage marriage and motherhood started me down the road of packing on the pounds.   By the time I was 30 years old I was over 200 lbs.

At various times I have dieted and exercised my way down to 180 lbs - not a healthy weight but one where I was more comfortable.  However, years of yo-yo dieting and my sugar addiction created a fertile ground for metabolic syndrome and, eventually, a diagnosis of Type II diabetes. At my highest weight I was 259 lbs. at only 5'3".  Yikes!

I fought the idea of surgery for years until I found out I was damaging my liver.  I don't know why but that was the last straw!  I had my procedure done at a Center of Excellence on May 24, 2013.

I'm so glad to be making this journey with all the other courageous people here on OH.
