post opt care

Jun 27, 2009

OK, I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the post opt care I have received... or not received.  I understand that they have done this a million times and it's not big deal to them, but it's my first time and it is a big deal to me.  When I call with a concern and they tell me someone will call me, and they don't, it annoys me!  OK so I will tell you the story, My Mom came from Montana to stay with me for the surgery, and on Friday, the day before she was going to leave, the port incision was looking a little red and angry and felt hot to the touch, so I called the surgeons office staff, and let the person know my concern and he told me that even if I left right now, I wouldn't be able to get to the office for anyone to see me because I live a ways away, so he would have the surgeon call me.  Well No call, so I called my doctors office, and they said well come on in we can have you see the nurse, so I saw her and she wanted nothing to do with my care, because of liability, and she said to go up to the ER, so that's what I did, they said it was infected and I needed to get on an antibiotic.  I'm glad the ER is there since my surgeon doesn't seem to give a care.  Monday when I got home from work, I had a msg on my voice mail from the office staff telling me to call him if I was having trouble but if not than disregard the message.  Whatever!  If I had waited tell Monday I hate to think how bad the infection would have been.  Not impressed.

feeling a little better

Jun 19, 2009

I feel a lot better, it's so amazing what a difference a few days can make, at first I felt like what the heck was I thinking getting this surgery, but today it only hurts at the port site.  My Mom says she can already tell a difference. Surgery day I was at 216 and today I'm at 212, the week before surgery I was 222, so I guess I may look a little different, I can't tell, but it's nice to hear it from someone!  The codeine they gave me makes me itch all over, so today I have to drive the hour and a 1/2 to Federal way to pick up a different pain killer.  I have to admit without the pain killers, I don't think I would feel very good at all.  I'm not much of a pill taker, but last night, I didn't want to get up and take my meds in the middle of the night and when I woke up this morning I wish I had taken them.  Today after Federal Way I'm going to try to go shopping for a short time with my Mom, she heads back to Montana tomorrow, but I want to help her find something to ware to my sisters wedding in August!  I hope I feel up to it!

Oh my gosh I hurt so bad.  I don't think I have ever felt so much pain, I'm taking my pain meds, but they don't take the edge off at all.  Please pray for me, I'm thinking I'm gunna need it!

first step

Jan 09, 2009

I had my appointment with Shirley from the Aetna Insurance company, she asking me every question in the book, and scolded me for not taking my medications like I should!  I like her though, and she gave me everything I could possibly want to know about what I have to be doing.  The first step is to start writing down everything that I’m eating everyday, not easy for me! I have a doctor appointment on January 16th at 3:30 and I will have my doctor fill out the paperwork she needs and verify my weight, once she gets the paperwork, She will figure out what is 5% of my weight is and that is what I have to loose before she will do the referral to the surgeon.  She said I have six months to loose the weight, and if it takes me 2 days that’s fine, that is when she will do the referral.  I have to fax her the verified weight every 2 weeks.  So that  she can verify that I’m loosing weight.  Not to hard. I’m really excited, I thought I had to weight six months before I even met with the surgeon. Woo hoo.
