post opt care

Jun 27, 2009

OK, I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the post opt care I have received... or not received.  I understand that they have done this a million times and it's not big deal to them, but it's my first time and it is a big deal to me.  When I call with a concern and they tell me someone will call me, and they don't, it annoys me!  OK so I will tell you the story, My Mom came from Montana to stay with me for the surgery, and on Friday, the day before she was going to leave, the port incision was looking a little red and angry and felt hot to the touch, so I called the surgeons office staff, and let the person know my concern and he told me that even if I left right now, I wouldn't be able to get to the office for anyone to see me because I live a ways away, so he would have the surgeon call me.  Well No call, so I called my doctors office, and they said well come on in we can have you see the nurse, so I saw her and she wanted nothing to do with my care, because of liability, and she said to go up to the ER, so that's what I did, they said it was infected and I needed to get on an antibiotic.  I'm glad the ER is there since my surgeon doesn't seem to give a care.  Monday when I got home from work, I had a msg on my voice mail from the office staff telling me to call him if I was having trouble but if not than disregard the message.  Whatever!  If I had waited tell Monday I hate to think how bad the infection would have been.  Not impressed.
