A set back or a better way to lose weight?

Jan 19, 2012

I started the process to get a VSG in August 2009, and by the end of November all I had to do was to pick a surgery date and attend some classes.  It all happened so fast that I was actually a little put off.  Then, I received an email from one of the nurses saying that right when I started the approval process my insurance had added a stipulation that all candidates had to show that they had been on a medically-supervised weight-loss program for at least six months before they could be approved for surgery.  I sort of forgot about it and went on with my normal habits for a while.

Then something happened.  After thinking about it a lot and talking with some of my friends, I realized something important, something I really had trouble admitting to myself---that I had never really tried to lose the weight before.  Sure, I had tried crash diets and eating healthy for 1 or 2 weeks, but then gave up when the progress slowed down.  With that, I decided I was actually going to try to diet for six months and see how much I could actually lose.

Well, I started on January 6 and today, on January 20, I have lost 15 pounds.  Not really a lot of progress considering I have 120 pounds to lose, but it is something.  I actually feel motivated this time and at this point my stomach has shrunk enough that I don't feel hungry very often.  I am feeling very optimistic.  I just started Nutrisystem as I felt that it fit with my lifestyle, so I am interested to see how much it helps.

Hanging in there!  Hoping to lose 100 pounds by next Feburary, when the lease on my apartment is up.
