I have been comfortable being a plus size person.  I was comfortably average in high school.  A comfortable size 10. As I grew older, so did my weight.  I am now at 226.

At 50, there are health concerns.  My family has heart conditions as a problem; my family has diabetes as a problem.  I have lost relatives to heart attack, diabetes, and stroke.

I want to be proactive.  I decided to have surgery and have been approved due to my high index that shows me prone to diabetes.  It will be a nice side affect to be smaller, but I look forward to the reduced blood pressure and reduced chance of developing other issues that go along with age and "overweightness".

I have a couple of friends who had surgery and they seem healthier, happier.  I want to live a full life and I feel this is a viable option.  Many of my friends are saying, "Girl, you don't need that surgery, you look fine.  But they don't see me taking the hypertension medicine.  They don't see my BMI creep up.  They don't see my family history from the angle I note.

I am set for surgery with Dr. Barker on March 18, 2009.  I feel he has a good spirit.  I feel his staff supportive.  I look forward to a successful surgery.  Pray for success!
