Failed My Sleeve... what is next?

Jan 24, 2021

It has been awhile, so here is a reintro:

I figured I’d introduce myself & give a little background since my goal is to be an active member. I am working on getting the DS - I actually see the surgeon on Tuesday. I am in Florida, just relocated from Alaska. I am not sure that this surgeon even does the DS. He has high ratings for the Bariatric Surgery but what does that really mean?! ??????????? So, if y’all know any great surgeons in Central Florida... I all ears. I know my insurance covers the revision.

Let’s talk about my before & after... well my HW: 678lbs. I lost nearly 200lbs before surgery. I just stopped eating all my extra meals. I literally had two breakfast, two lunches, two dinners , two snacks. Hey don’t judge me !???? I didn’t realize I was consuming so much until I sat in the doctors office & he told me to write out my meals from the day before. The audacity of my appetite...Lol. The caveat of it all is that I didn’t have any health problems. My numbers were low like a teenager. Talk about blessings.

As a matter of fact, I was only at the doctor because I watched My 600lbs Life?? and I was like wait one gosh darn minute ???? she is shaped like me. There is no darn way I weigh that much. Well let me tell you something... I got on my primary care provider scale & it said Errrrr... so he advise me to go to the meat market & get weighed & report back. I was shamed but determined to know. FYI... I think it is nasty ???? that they let people weigh in the meat market but it worked for me.... so the result was 678lbs. Yep... You guessed it! I was in disbelief! This had to be a dream. I pinched myself & it hurt... so I was officially morbidly obese!

I sprung into action, I wanted the RNY ASAP... long story short, I was approved. Two days before surgery, it was cancelled. Apparently, my job convinced the insurance company that they wanted it as an exclusion, so my policy changed. Why, because they “needed” me at work. Excuse the language... straight BS.

Years later, I was employed elsewhere & the insurance is marvelous. I had the sleeve. My stats where SW:408lbs. So I did a lot of losing on my own. With the Sleeve I got down to 350lbs. Then everything went uphill. I tore my meniscus working out & this awful brewing ???? Fire in my gut started raging! Acid reflux showed up & it was literally kicking my a$$! I was eating things like crackers to suppress it. And no matter what I ate, I gained weight. Since my sleeve, I still can’t eat more that 1 1/2 to 2 cups of food. But the weight was back, waving ???? & flapping around like a dolphin ???? at the beach.

Sorry this is so long. So let me bring this story of my life in... so I relocated to Florida & the Reflux grow up & took on a whole new meaning of pain & discomfort. I generally can’t sleep more than two hours without feeling like someone is gutting me alive, I wake up vomiting even if I drink water four hours before bed. It gives me severe headaches even in the nape of my neck - Home of the pituitary gland. It is awful. And now I can only eat 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food a day. For all this pain, I should be able to enjoy an entire meal.

I had an EDG done & a stomach study - I have Gastroparesis??? (my stomach is paralyzed & the rate of digestion is 8 to 10 hours later.) The acid reflux has given me hiatal hernia, ulcers on my esophagus & stomach. I weighed 430lbs... yes more than before the sleeve. The Gastrologist? says if I get the weight down, the symptoms will go away plus having hernia repair.

Therefore, I want the most effective procedure which by my research is the DS. Since last Tuesday I am down to 419lbs... not sure why though but I’ll take it.

So that is why I am here! I am so thankful to all who post & comment. Y’all have been so helpful & inspiring. Some of y’all have scared me but I am focused on my goals & will take your stories as education just in case I get in a pinch of a situation. Y’all have a blessed day! I wish you all the best on your journeys! #watcherinchange
