My name is Jennifer Vallentine. I am 36 years old and have been overweight about 16 years. I wasn't always heavy. I was a small child and teenager. I got pregnant when I was 16 and moved to California. Thats when I started gaining weight. I was a new bride and mother from the East Coast now living on the West Coast away from my family. My husband at the time was military and was away a lot. I started gaining weight out of bordom and lonliness and also depression. The weight has piled on for 16 years and now I am 315 lbs. I have touble walking and have about become homebound. I have high blood pressure and diebetes. I never feel well. I have wanted Gastric bypass for a few years but was afraid my insurance wouldnt pay. So I didnt bother. BCBS of Sc has a obesity clause. Finally after many friends urged me to call I found you have to ask the questions just right. When I called and ask if they would pay for my surgery for obesity I was told no. When I called again and ask if they would pay for morbid obesity they said yes. I didnt know one word "morbid" was all I needed to say. I had my first app with Dr. Bryne at MUSC in Charleston Sc on Nov 16th and had approval and a date a few weeks later. My insurance deemed it medically necessary. I am so happy but now I am scared. It is going to happen. My surgery is scheduled for Feb 16th 2007.
