Mercy Medical Center

"The nurses were outstanding and very attentive. There are 5 rooms (all private) for bariatric patients. The staff said they have seen a lot of bypass patients come through but that the lap band is increasing in popularity."

Buritt Haag

"My first impression of Dr. Haag was "young". He is a young good-looking doctor but don't be fooled by his youth. He has spent a year doing nothing but lap procedures including about 90 lap bands so I was impressed with his training. He is very thorough about explaining the RNY and band and lets you choose which one you want. He comes to the support group meetings to answer questions and is very honest. I have only interacted with a few office staff so far but they seem very dedicated and willing to help you through the process. Two of them also came to the support group meetings. I guess the thing I least like about Dr. Haag is his youth (how awful to say)! It gives the impression of inexperience but it is not his fault! He is very concerned about aftercare and explains that he wants to keep a good eye on you after surgery. Dr. Haag also lets you know that finding the "sweet spot" is a process and that he does 99% of fills in his office. He does not currently require pre-op weight loss but may consider it in the future because it does make surgery easier (due to liver size). I think he was very thorough about risks and benefits of both surgeries (but I had also done a lot of research before I went). I think a surgeon's competence is more important than his bedside manner but feeling comfortable with your surgeon is important too."
