Yvonne S.
Hi! My name is Yvonne and I am 45 years old. I have an awesome husband, 3 beautiful girls and a granddaughter! My oldest daughter is 23 and is married. She has her own beautiful little girl and is due to have another baby in January 2008. My other 2 girls are 9 and 8.
I had my first daughter when I was 21 (I turned 22 shortly after having her) and then I started noticing that I wasn't having regular cycles.... I let it go until I was about 24 years old - as who want's a "monthly" every month?! when I was 24 - I was having a very heavy period and got scared because I had never seen so much blood loss in my life! So I went to my doctor. He in turn said "here take these provera" and it should stop the bleeding. Well... it didn't. The bleeding went on for a total of 52 days. I had called and called the dr to tell him the pills didn't work and he just kept making more suggestions which didn't work to stop the bleeding either. So I got angry and told him I wanted to see a different doctor. He was happy to send me to a friend of his. I went to see Dr. Genaro and he immediately sent me for an ultrasound. Low and behold! When the results came back - he called to tell me I have what is called... PCOS. To make a long story short - I have been reeping the benefits of the PCOS and all the while beating myself up for being obese... and year after year of dieting - I'm gaining more than I'm loosing. Just in the last 10 years alone - I have gained over 100lbs.!
I feel bad for my husband too! Not only did I tell him that I was informed by doctors due to my PCOS - that I was lucky to have gotten pregnant the first time - (it took me a year)... and I would probably not be able to have any more kids without assistance of fertility treatments. Well, my husband proposed on March 8, 1997 and I found out on March 16, 1997 that i was pregnant. (hmmmm) - We got married in June 1997 and our first (my 2nd) daughter was born the end of October 1997. You do the math. :-) I later did some research to find out that when PCOS women have a big weight loss - their monthly cycles change and they become more fertile... wouldn't you know it! I was on the phen-phen diet and had lost 49 lbs when I met my husband. Her I was 35 and having my 2nd child! what a suprise! Then after having her - I told my husband that if we wanted to have more - we should do it right away - so that I wasn't having kids after 40. So a year after our 2nd daughter was born - we got pregnant again.
I am so lucky to have this family! I don't know what I would do without all of them.
I am a hairstylist part-time and I work at home the other part of the time. I have always wanted to do hair full-time - but have been told too many times that I "don't fit the image" to behired anywhere the business would be good enough to make good money at. So I have settled into a small family salon in my neighborhood for now. I can't wait til after my surgery- so I can go back to those "you don't fit the image" salons and show em' how good I am! LOL!
I have been overweight since puberty - around 13. The doctors thougth I had a thyroid problem since I gained 30lbs over the summer and went from being flat chested to a c = cup..... in just a summer break from school.
Now I have been approved at 45 for the Gastric Bypass and I am seeing my future brighten! I will be able to comfortably do things with my kids and now more time with my grand-kids! My husband and I will have more time together too! I am so happy this surgery is possible! Without it - I was looking at a shorter life sentence.
Now - I will use it all to my advantage! I want to play softball again! which I haven't done in 11 years.... and I want to joing a bowling league again. I want to travel with my kids and go hiking and not have to stop every 10 minutes because i can't breath!
I WANNA LIVE!
