9 days post op and Hospital story....
Jan 30, 2009
So I am officially 9 DAYS POST OP. I feel good. After suffering through a power outage and hoping that the trees that surround our house didn't completely colapse on us, we are out of th hotel and BACK at home.
So my surgical story:
I went to the hospital on the 22nd at around 9:45. I was immediately moved to pre-op where me and the hubby watched bad daytime T.V. until it was time to go into surgery. My Dr. and my anest. are comedians so I laughed until I was under. I woke up in recovering in pain, but that was quickly remedied by a nurse with great precision with a syringe. I remeber my hubby comming back to recovery and talking to me, and me snapping on a nurse b/c they were talking about me like I wasn't awake. Then I was rolled to my room. Room 4M02. I then had the worst night. The nurse that was there was horrible. The morphine pump was not delivering and I was in pain. I hit it EVERY six minutes, and I still got no relief. Yet. she would not call the dr. I was on my period and I asked iof she would help me get a new pad on. This heifer procedes to snatch the pad that I have on and just stick another in between my legs. If I was up to it I would have slapped her. Then came morning. After a visit from 2 dr.s my pain med was changed and I got 2 new nurses who had to be sent from heaven. Mary and Ms. Mittie helped me in every way possible. I then went for my Barium Swallow. DIsgusting to say the least. Yet I passed with flying colors.
ALL HAIL THE PURPLE POPSICLE, FOR IT IS FLAVORFUL AND TASTES LIKE STEAK DINNER AFTER RNY!!!! I was then put on clear liquids to see how I would take them. I had a cup of broth...okay 30cc's of broth and had a time getting that down, but I did and it was okay. Then I walked. I was cleared by physical therapy b/c I basically SKIPPED down the hall. Catheter and all. I begged to get that out and they finally gave in, two hours later I was using the bathroom like a grown woman and I had my own panties own!!! By this time it was bed time and I was very tired. Hubby visited all day and I sent him home to sleep b/c they (nurses) come in and bother you ALL NIGHT LONG. Along with sleep came a SHIFT CHANGE and here we go again with nurses who were less than adequate to work in Bariatrics. Well with Sunrise came strained oatmeal. Now I am a BIG GIRL and there are not too many things in my lifetime that I would turn down but I tasted that shit and had to pass. I asked could i have something else and that answer was no. Lunch came and there was tomato soup and I very much dislike that too but I choked it down. My surgeon came to see me. All my incisions looked good, and that JP drain had to go. The morning nurses did too. Teirani was the HNIC (head nurse in charge) and she ignored me like the plauge. I only cry when I am mad and I broke down crying twice. Had I been 100% she would have gotten broke down. Anyway Dr. Tanner asked if I wanted to go home and I said yes. So I had to get that JP drain removed. HOLY COW!!! I had NO IDEA I had 18 inches of tubing in me. It felt like it came from my lungs when he pulled it. It didn't hurt but was uncomfortable as hell. After laying on the bed to regain my composure for a few, I packed up and changed ready to go home. Overall, on a scale of 1-10 I give my hospital experience a 6. Oh I forgot that I had to practically BEG for water...They kept saying I couldn't have it, but I was off I.V and on full liquids... Yeah whatever.
Fast Foward to yesterday....
I was supposed to go see Dr. Tanner next week for my 2 week appt but ended up seeing him yesterday b/c I had an inceision that was swollen like a baseball. It had started to go down but I was freaked out. In comes my comedian Dr. Tanner.
Dr. Tanner: (Pokes Me)
me: OWWWWW......
Dr. Tanner: Oh it hurts there (Pokes me again and chuckles)
Me: Yes dammit....
Dr. Tanner: Your okay I healed you through the phone....
Me: Thanks Jesus..can you turn this water into wine too..
Dr. Tanner: Did that in the operating room.
5 mins later
Me: Oh and I have this mysterious bruise
Dr.T: I punched you an the operating table (bnounces like he is Evander Holyfield)
God I love my Dr. Anyways he tells me not to come see him next week and says that I can procede to soft foods a week early for one week instead of two and then introduce new foods. YES DAMNIT... SO I know you are waiting for it. I am 17 pounds down... I am an even 300 lbs. Water is very hard to get down so I drink more juice diluted with water. Berry Juicy Juice is my friend. I am very happy right now and don't regret a thing!!!!

I had my sleep study Dec 22... Results NO SLEEP APNEA..Woo-hoo that means no CPAP!!! I hate things being on my face so this is a blessing.
I had my appt with Dr. Tanner on the 12th of Dec and had my EGD doen on the 15th... I remeber nothing about it and only know that I was placed on 40 mg of Pepcid a day. It has help dramatically with my GERD!!!!
So now I am waiting.. I will have to post another blog about Bridget from my Dr's office. She is the worst insurance specialist I have ever ran into, but she will not spoil this blog.
Anyway, I order some Unjury protein and have been "trying" to make tasty protein shakes. I am not good at it at all. But I found one combination I love with soy milk, frozen strawberries, and strawberry sorbet Unjury... DELICIOUS
So now I am really just waiting on approval... The insurance site is showing : IN PROGRESS.. I hope they progress fast :)
UPDATE!!
Dec 03, 2008
1. I had my appt @ Norton on the 21st for the initial consultation. Paid my $300.00 and was off to watch the video, see the nutritionist, nurse, and make sure I wasn't CRAZY..LOL
All of that went well, and I found out via my HOSPITAL BAND that I was assigned to Dr. Tanner. Yes, fate dealt me a good card this time. I am very excited!!!
2. I had a Cardiac Stress Test before that appt.. A-OK....
3. I decided to call to Dr. Tanner's office 2 days ago just to see if my file had made it like the ladies said it would. Well, my ultimate goal was to just be noisy and see how long the wait list was for appts. I guess not that long. I have my initial appt on DEC 12th!!! WOW....Iam one step closer to the losers bench the only thing left is the....
4. SLEEP STUDY!!!! I have a consultation with them on the 11th and they said that they schedule studies no more than a week from you initial, So i should be finished with my entire packet besides any other tests that Dr. Tanner should want by the end of December! :)
As I said before my PCM at Ireland on Fort Knox is a little over zealous and has had me do a lot of small testing already...So I am just utterly excited!!!!
Well...
