3 years later...

Jun 06, 2010

Cant believe its been 3 years since my re-birth.  I have slacked off completely with blogging, since i'm now spending more time living life.... That's a good excuse, right?

Well, its been one heck of a rollercoaster.  I am at 168 lbs.  Still trying to reach my goal of 150 lbs.  Now, i see the ups and downs... i gain, i lose...

I am at a point where i can eat just about anything.  I am trying to stay on track with counting calories.  I guess, i am gonna make a point to hit the blogs again to keep me motivated.  I want to reach 150 by christmas this year.

6 Months Out

Dec 25, 2007

And I feel like a different person.  Haven't blogged much, been really busy adjusting to my new job.  All I can say is that I am so happy I made this decision 6 months ago.  It has changed my life and given me the opportunity to cherish everyday with my family.  No more blood pressure meds, no more CPAP machine, Have not had an asthma attack in a while...  Life is good.

Merry christmas to all, and here's to a wonderful 2008.

Oct 21, 2007

Finally!!!  The last time I have been to this place was 11 years ago, before marriage and 2 kids.

Havent blogged much lately, been really busy with work.  I think i have finally adjusted to my new eating habits.  No more nausea... Thank the Lord!!!  I could not be happier with my life now.  No more asthma problems, no more blood pressure pills to take, and I dont have to wear that darned CPAP machine!!!  Most of all, I can now enjoy my kids more, playing with them, enjoying more outdoorsy stuff with my family.  Did not know what I was missing til now.

9/13/07 - Its been awhile...

Sep 13, 2007

Been a long time since I posted, but the last couple of months have been a roller coaster ride!  After 3 hospitalizations during those 2 months for severe nausea, I think I am finally getting the handle of all of this.  I am eating regular food now, and the main trick is minute bites of food and really chewing them, and very little, albeit very frequent, sips of fluids.

Weighloss wise, I have gained a lost the same 3 pounds for 2 months now, and I think I really have to up up the exercise now.  I have adding lifting weights to my exercise regimen, since I am starting to have chicken wings!

This has been such an experience.  I can now go any store and buy clothes, something that I have not been able to do in a very long time. ( I have to take the largest size, I think, but still!) The most important thing is that I am enjoying life again, being able to go outside and play with my kids, or walk around the mall or park without being so short of breath to the point of fainting.  This surgery is giving me my life back, and for that I am so grateful.

7/19/07 - Frustrated!!

Jul 18, 2007

I know that I am going to experience stalls, and I know that a lot of people have gone through it, based on posts on the message boards, but I have been fluctuating a pound on and off for the past week now.  I have not lost any weight in the past week.  GRRRR!!!  I do feel hungry, and I try to get my protein in, but its just frustrrating.  I know weight loss will happen again, it has to, but that's just me being impatient...I see my doctor tomorrow, then I start work on Monday.

7/12/07 - 3rd week out!

Jul 11, 2007

I had the worst time yesterday, I was feeling bad all day long!  My little pouchy was acting up and would not accept anything I try to feed it!  I just stayed hydrated, with water and nothing else, since that's about all my grouchy pouch could accept and went to bed early.   Feeling better today, and so far so good as far as food goes... Im in the pureed/soft diet now...

1st post op MD Visit - 7/3/07

Jul 03, 2007

met with Dr. Sherman today for my first post op visit, and he told me I look great (bet he says that to all of his patients!) I did tell him about my RUQ abdominal pain and he said that it is normal.  This is the area where the two bigger incisions were for the scope and they were big enough to require stitches.  He told me that soreness will eventually go away once the bruises on my tummy disappears.  It is nothing to worry about but he recommended that I put heat on it, and to wear my binder a while longer to help support it.  Other than that, everthing is progressing well.

That to me is great news!

1 week Post Op - 7/2/07

Jul 02, 2007

I cannot believe that it has been a week since I crossed over to the losing side!  This has truly been a blessing.  28 pounds gone forever!  I also found out per DH reports that I no longer snore.  Sleep Apnea is gone!  I have not been using my CPAP machine for 5 days now, and it was such a relief.  Just to have that taken cared of makes this journey already worthwhile!

4 days post op - 6/29/07

Jun 29, 2007

Well, its been a while since I posted.  I guess I should start with the surgery itself.

June 24 - Day before surgery.   I was a bag full of emotions!  First I was excited that my wait is finally over.  Then , as i was chugging on my magnesium citrate, I was thinking, "What if this is the worst thing that I could ever do?" Then, I could not sleep, thinking I do not want to get the surgery after all, what if I die on the table? I am 31 years old, and my little girls need me... Then reality stuck, I am going to die if I continue in this path, I am self desctructing as it is... So, I finally went to bed and slept peacefully, thinking, this is it for me... I will ultimately place myself in God's hands.  If He wants me to be there for my kids, I will survive this surgery....  I place my life in God's hands...

June 25 - Surgery day. It was rainging so hard here, that we decided to leave for the hospital early.  my surgery time is scheduled for 1230 pm, but surgery did not start til 2:20.  Doc Said it lasted about 2 hours for the RnY, add another hour for the gallbladder removal.

Last thing I remembered was talking to the anesthesiologist about how Xenical really does not work... next thing I know, I was in my room.  First thing I did was touch my belly to feel if I had one big incision in the middle... I had 6 small ones. that in itself was a blessing!  I know that my recovery would be faster.  After about 5 hours post op, I forced myself to get up and walked.  I pressed on my Morphine pump, and away i go!  Needless to say, i had a good night's sleep after that.

June 26 - Upper GI test. I had to take gastrograffin since Barium was too thick... NASTY!!!  I had to keep on chugging from a straw, and they had me turn this way and that... By this time, the anesthetic was wearing off, and I was getting really sore!  Well, good news, though,  I had NO Leaks!

Dr. Sherman came by to see me at around lunch time, and told me that I could start on my liquid diet.  I started with ice chips, then progressed to about 4 teaspoons of jello throughout the day.  I was not really hungry.   I kept on doing my laps around the unit... But I noticed that my right upper incision was hurting more than the others.  I also hurt from where the JP drain was dangling out of.

June 27 - my first experience with the dry heaves! I was asked to take medication one after the other, and I felt really bad after that!  I finally threw up and foam came out!  I actually felt better after that.  Then Dr. Sherman came to seem me, everything looks OK,  told me again that I have to take things really slow!  Told him what happened with the medications, and he did tell me space them out at least 2 hrs apart.  Makes more sense!  With that, I was discharged home.

Uneventful ride home.  DH fixed the living room which will be my lair for the next few weeks.  Recliner's waiting for me, and there I parked.

June 28 - nauseated!  I have got to get the hang of swallowing my liquids correctly!  If I gulped a big enough amount, I get really nauseated.  I did take out my shot glasses and are using them to drink my liquids out of.  They are exactly 1 oz., so I use them instead of the plastic medicine cups.  They are reusable, and hold hot liquids well.

June 29 - Full liquids.  I had to advance myself to full liquids.  For breakfast, I had fat free milk with cookies and cream protein blended right in.  I poured my 2 oz for breakfast, kept the rest in the freezer for a cold treat later on.  This is sitting well in my tummy for once!
