I am a 54 year old female and grandmother of 3 grandchildren ages 8, 5 and 4. I have been obese from about the age of 16.
I had two total knee replacements in 2006. One in June and the other in October. Once i got my mobility back somewhat from my knee surgeries I decided i wanted to take the next step and get this weight off. As many of your stories I had done many diets over the years and yo yo'd and gaining each time.
When i approached my MD he did not want to fill out my OHIP out of country forms because he felt i did not qualify. I was 327 pounds, on 3 medications for high blood pressure, had two knee replacements but he refused to sign. I have to tell you my MD gave me these two reasons also. He said a great percentage of our small town was obese so i wasn't alone. Why did i want to do this? and the second one was..........your husband is obese how will he handle it when you lose your weight and he is still a heavy man. I asked my orthopedic surgeon if he would sign my papers and he did gladly giving me praise for wanting to better myself.
I had my surgery with Dr's David Spencer and Dr. Glen Moore in Portsmouth Virginia. The whole team down there was fantastic and professional with a cup full of friendship. Even the office staff stopped in to see me when i was in the hospital. The doctors as well as staff made me laugh and feel comfortable.
Day of surgery i weighed 327 pounds. Today 3 months and 3 weeks later i have lost 80 pounds. I feel fantastic. I see the difference in my cloths however when i look in the mirror i don't see a difference in myself. Hopefully that day will come because i hear many comments from friends and people at work.
I am so glad i had my knees done to get out of the pain and then my RNY to help me get my life back. Oh yeah my daughter is getting married in August of this year (not the one with the grandchildren lol) and i am going to be one smoking hot Mother of the Bride
