3 years out!!!!

Jul 05, 2011

Its been just over three years for me now. I am working harder to become more fit. Since posting in January, I have gotten used to my workout routine. I spent a week in South Beach in the Spring and I'm heading to Greece next month, so I'm working on my beach body. I'm not two piece ready, but I have managed to tone things up. I continue to drink protein shakes. I really don't know how I'd survive without them. I don't like to cook everyday, so the shakes keep me from getting too hungry and they are really convenient.

A nice day to work on my fitness

Jan 22, 2011

I spent some time in the gym today. I haven't worked out much since I was in a car accident. That was about a year and a half ago. So I am very much out of shape. I defintely felt the burn when I was working out today, but I look forward to making it a part of my regular routine. I have gained about 15-20 pounds since that time. For a while, following the accident, I was afraid to injur my back and I felt that I had enough going on in my life. It wasn't until I had a two-week vacation period at work, that I realized how much free time I had. I hope to update soon with some much needed progress.

Its not just a decision, its a lifestyle change.

Dec 31, 2010

I'm 2.5 years post op. I have somehow forgotten the effort and strength it took to lose over 100 pounds. In such a relaxed state, I have gained back up to 162 and boy did the weight come easily. I neglected to keep track of the foods I ate, my water intake, and excerised as often as I went on vacation. So here's to a change (and not because it New Year's Eve). I'm a teacher and I've had the past two weeks off from work. With this time off, I realize that I could easily incorporate my previous work out routine into my daily schedule. I actually think it will help me to be more energized in the classroom. Also, when I was physically active (cardio/strength training 3-4 days each week) I remember that junk food actually tasted like junk. I miss that :) Right now, cookies and chips are delicious. I want that craving for the healthy foods again. I'm posting a pic or two of me at my current weight and we'll see how successful I am at melting away in 2011.

2 Years Post Op

Jun 10, 2010

It feels like its been much longer than 2 years, but I guess thats it. My blood pressure continues to remain normal. My body can tolerate any and all foods in moderation. I have not been reaching my exercise goals during the past 6 months or so because a recent career opportunity. As a result, my weight is right around 150. I am incredibly pleased with the outcome of my surgery and look to have more success.

Celebrating 1 Year

Jun 10, 2009

This has been an eventful year. I have faced some trials, but through it all God has shown me much grace and mercy. I am so pleased to have had such success with this weight loss surgery. I am grateful for my doctor, Dr. Clark and his supportive staff. I am so happy to have the support of my family and friends throughout the good and rough times.

I have had awesome support from my family and friends in guiding my diet and exercise habits. Everyone has been more than supportive.

My highest recorded weight was 248 pounds. Pre op I was about 230-235. I am now weighing in at 143 pounds. I am so proud of myself and I encourage all of you newcomers and onlookers to get in the groove of things and flourish as much as you may, because it is all possible.

Update

Feb 24, 2009

So its been eight months already and I'm wondering where the time went. Things are still going great. I have had only 1 issue and that's with chicken. I cannot eat chicken without having some type of complication. I have not had any fried chicken since surgery. I had been eating baked and grilled chicken since 1 month post op, but it doesn't go down quite the same now. I have decided that its in my best interest to part ways with chicken since I can't hold it down anyway. Besides that everything is going great.

Spin off

Feb 03, 2009

I was just reading a post from someone else's blog. It was basically about the different reactions a woman can get from a man pre and post surgery. I think its unfortunate, but its definitely human nature that a man will ignore a plus size woman only to throw himself at her feet just as soon as a new shape emerges.

I have been blessed to have had a great deal of success since my VGB. I have gone from a size 18 (tight- cuz I refuse to buy a 20) to an 8. I like to wear fitted clothes, usually juniors M or S and I get a lot of attention. But I have been exhausted with a bunch of unnecessary attention from guys who have nothing but "midnight" intentions. I don't need a "cuddy buddy" I got a nephew and 2 God daughters that will give me all the hugs I want. Its definitely difficult to find someone with good intentions now.

People that I've met since surgery say that they couldn't imagine me being overweight.  I have even met guys who admit that they are not attracted to bigger ladies. I tend to talk about fitness and healthy eating and make no efforts to hide my struggle with obesity. I still represent for the big girls................chubby cheeks 4 life!

Okay, 7 months out

Jan 07, 2009

I feel so anxious and happy about my great progress. I am 7 months out and I'm looking and feeling great. I get compliments from basically everyone. I have had people say they think its time I slow down or stop the weight loss. I don't think so. Those buzzards can kick rocks. LOL. I'm trying to be healthy for life and the thing I have to explain the most is that I want to restore my health to the best of my ability. I can jog and jog and jog some more, but ultimately I want to be able to run at least 2 miles w/o being exhausted or in extreme pain. I'm going to keep striving until I achieve this goal.

Celebrating 6 Months

Dec 09, 2008

Wow! It feels really great to have had 6 awesome months of success! I feel absolutely wonderful. My energy is way up there. I feel that I have very few physical limitations and I am trying more strenuous work outs. I recently started jogging more on the treadmill and I am doing more crunches and I just started doing sit ups in the past month. I was afraid that I couldn't do sit ups because I tried them with a friend a couple of months ago and I did not succeed. However, in the past month, I have been able to do sit ups and I am proud of myself.

I had been a bit busy replacing all my clothes and became a regular at the thrift stores, but I didn't realize until last week that I need to replace my long coat. I have a new coat, but its a short sporty one. So I really need a dress coat. I will try to get one by Christmas, hopefully I can find a nice one in the DAV thrift shop.
I recently went to a formal for my pastor's anniversary and I was able to try some new foods and really delicious desserts like fudge cake and cherry trifle, but in moderation. My friends and family members tried to monitor my intake, and they were surprised to see how well-disciplined I am. I was sure to have no more than a couple bites of each dessert and I definitely got in all the protein that I could.

I am down to a size 10 in pants now and my tops are a medium. I have surprised myself because I didn't think I would reach this weight until the Spring.
