I was disappointed at first about not going to Barix but I think it will turn out for the best.  When I called Barix and told the intake gal my ins. info she said they don't deal with Aetna and wouldn't even sign me up for the info seminar.  I ended up calling her back and asking her to send me info, what she sent was a really lame flyer that didn't give me the info I was looking for.  I was a bit resentful because I felt shunned because of my insurance info.  My doc had said that whoever she referred me to would be approved by aetna because she dealt with it before and it's always gone that way.  She refferred me to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital outside of Princeton.  My insurance approved it although he wasn't on the aetna provider list -so my dr was accurate about that info.  So far I'm still very much in the beginning of the process.  Aenta requires 6 months of wt & bp documentation and my doc is willing to fudge a bit on that because she's counselled me before over the past years about my weight, even going to theexpense of buying me a gym membership at the local gym.  She's a real doll this gal.
All I've done so far is get some blood drawn and get a ultrsound of my liver, gallbladder and pancreas.  Also a transvaginal ultrasound cuz I probably have PCOS which affects my hormone levels and metabolism.  I have my first consultation appt with the surgeon next Thursday the 26th of April.  I've also made an appt with the pulmonologist May 10th and today I called to make appts for cardiologist, nutritionist, sleep studies, and nutritional eval and counseling. Likely because today is Friday, of course I didn't get any return calls but expect to have several set up on Monday. I am really anxious to get the ball rolling and move ahead already.  I think about it every day. I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and I know it isn't a train.  I have gotten so much hope and reasurance from this site. I realize this is but one of the tools I have to change my situation permanently and that I will always have to stay vigilent.  It is not the "easy way out" or a end-all to my weight problem.  I will always have to take care of myself with eating healthily and exercise. I feel this surgery is just the tool to get me started back on the right track.
I am psyched for my surgical consult Thursday and have decided to get the RNY. Although I am not a nurse now, I used to be and I understand the medical procedures and risks fairly well.  I don't like the idea of the band and all the readjustments that have to be made.  It seems to me that most patients get the best results from the RNY.
I do have concerns that others don't have to worry about and that's that I have been exposed to Hepatitis C.  I have never been sick from it that I know of -and one would usually know because it can be deadly- and my liver enzymes look good considering my weight and the Hep C.

I'll write again after my surgical consult this Thursday.
