Seven years post band, its been a while

Nov 01, 2014

I wanted to update here where I am in my weight loss journey.  I have been banded 7 years and I have never been below 200 lbs.  I have lost over 75 lbs and have kept it off but I wish I could have lost more weight.   I stopped losing around 220 lbs.  I will fluctuate up or down 10 pounds.   I have not had a fill in years.   The last time I was at my bariatric office a couple of years ago I had to have an unfill due to esophagus dilation.   Surprisingly, I have not gained back much weight.  I am now ready to go back to the office and see if my band is in good shape to where I can get a fill again.  I go back November 13th so I am keeping my fingers crossed!  I am having a hard time keeping the weight off right now and my sweet tooth is out of control.  I know that I need to get back on track eating right but it is so hard sometimes.

Hi everyone,  I know its been a loooonnnnggg time since I last posted on here.  So here goes...
Starting last September, I went to full time 2nd shift where I worked.  Plus I also starting babysitting my little nephew Tues thru Fri. from 8am-2:30pm.  I have very little time to myself and I must confess that I did not pay attention to what I ate.  I lost weight slowly.  Maybe 2-3 pounds a month during a good month.  In December I went to 3rd shift full time, plus continuing to babysit 4 days a week.  Dr. Curry's office got on to me for my eating and made me keep a food journal which I had not been doing.   I started to lose about 4 pounds a month for a couple of months.  After my fill in Jan. I started losing, on average 5-6 pounds a month.   I opted to not have a fill in March, bad move on my part.  I gained 4 pounds that month.  I dont know what happened to me.  I think it was psychological.  I wanted to eat everything bad for me.
Now I am losing better after I had a fill the end of March.  I went from 244 down to 234 in one month.  10 pounds lost!   I still have a long way to go but I prefer to lose it 4-6 pounds a month.  That way my brain catches up with my stomach.  I dont feel the head hunger as bad if I lose slower.  I see myself adjusting better to the amounts of food I can eat if I take it slow.  I know I will reach my goal, it just may take longer than I had thought.
I love Dr Curry's office and staff.   They are all friendly and helpful and sometimes I dred going in to face Erin (the dietician) but she is always helpful, funny, and understanding and doesnt shame me on my bad eating that month.  I couldnt have asked for a better place to go to have my band.
Well, I rarely get on here anymore due to me being so busy.  Did I mention my daughter is getting married in August?  BUSY!!!!  So I may not update again for a while.  Take care everyone
Love, Wanda

Update 8/2/07

Aug 02, 2007

Its been a little over 2 weeks since I was banded and it feels like it has been alot longer than that.   I have had problems with my left shoulder hurting ever since surgery but I use advil and a heating pad and I am able to go about my day to day activities.  Sleeping at night is the worst.  I save my stronger pain medication for the night.   Also, I think I have a pinched nerve.  I didnt have it before surgery, but I am having problems with my legs, especially the left one.  It feels numb to the touch and sometimes it feels like it is on fire.  My Doctor doesnt think it is a blood clot, (not the right symptoms) so I may end up seeing someone if it doesnt get better in a couple of weeks.

My diet is doing ok.  I did the pureed diet for almost 2 weeks (ok, it was really for  11 days) then I advanced to the soft solid stage.  This is still pretty normal eating.  The only things I am not eating right now are beef, corn, nuts, anything hard, etc.   I dont feel too deprived .

I have lost 12 pounds since my surgery.   I have lost a total of 29 pounds since I started my pre-op diet on July 3rd.

I am Banded! 7/18/07

Jul 17, 2007

I am finally banded!   I went in yesterday (7-17-07) at 9:30am to the hospital and my surgery was at 11:30am.  I was very pleased with everyone at the Jewish Hospital in Kenwood.  My surgery went well, and I was in very little pain afterward.  I was able to go home 4 hours after my recovery.  I wish I had asked for something for pain before I left because my pain medication wore off in the car on the drive home and I was in excruciating pain the whole way home.   Once I got home, I was able to take my pain medication and it kicked in good by my second dose.  I was able to sleep 4 hours at a time in my own bed.  I would get up for an hour, take meds, then go back to bed for another 4 hours.
Today, I feel good.  I need to start moving more because I am still sitting too much.  Maybe I will go for a short walk today.

Tired of liquid diet 7/14/07

Jul 14, 2007

I only have two more days of this liquid diet until my surgery and I have done really well.  I have lost 18 pounds, no hunger or cravings, but today I decided that I had to have a whole bowl of vegetable soup.  (not just the broth)
I cant wait until I can have regular food (not Medifast or just  liquid).  I am so sick of liquids.

I have my post op prescriptions filled and ready to go.  I need to go to the grocery and get my foods that I will need for the pureed stage, pack an overnight bag, and get my house in order.  Then I will be ready!

Nutrition Class 7/7/07

Jul 08, 2007

Today was my nutrition class with Erin.  She took my pictures and weighed me.  I had lost 12 pounds since I was there last.   I know I am losing well on the Medifast diet but I wish there were more selections for me to choose from.  I am kind of a picky eater.

I am almost ready for my Surgery.  I have to have my preop testing done on Tuesday, then everything is a go!

Medifast Diet Begins 7-3-07

Jul 06, 2007

I went to the office to pick up my Medifast diet and I was dismayed to see that there weren't many flavors I like to choose from.  So I picked out my selection as well as I could, all with the thought that I will probably hate them.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I like the banana and chocolate puddings, and the chocolate shake.   (I am a chocoholic so no surprise there).  Anyway, I have been on them for 4 days as of today and I have lost 8 pounds!  I am not hungry at all but I do feel like I have a slight pressure headache most of the time.    I have 10 more days of this until my surgery.  I hope I can keep this up until then.
