It's a beautiful day...

Feb 05, 2011

It's so beautiful today! Quitting smoking has really opened up all my senses again. It's almost like discovering the smell or taste of things for the first time.
This morning I opened the patio door to let some fresh air in and was blown away by wonderful scent of dry maple leaves and fresh cut lawns. It was so wonderful I grabbed a chair and parked it right in the middle of my lawn and sat there with my eyes closed taking it all in for as long as my fair skin could handle the sun. It brought back memories of being a little girl. On cool sunny days one of my favorite things to do was sprawl out on the grass and read a good book- something I should do again. It's been years since I've been able to pick up such subtle smells.
I did something else I haven't done in a while too this morning. I got on the treadmill. Now, last time I used the treadmill I gave up after 5 minutes. It wasn't aches, pains or burning muscles that did me in- it was my lungs! I was out of breath! I know I need to take it slow. I don't want to push my body to do too much and end up hurting myself, but I am glad to say I made it ten minutes on the treadmill and not once felt like I was out of breath. I figure I'll start out with 10 minutes 2x a day and try to work my way up. I'm trying to convince my mom to let me put her treadmill in my room since she hasn't used it in years- we'll see how that goes.
Why is it people become to attached to the exercise equipment they never use? I mean really. She honestly has not set so much as a foot on that treadmill in 3 years. Does it make you feel more fit to have it there to stare at? Is the absense of your dusty treadmill suddenly going to make you feel less in shape than the day before?
