I have been overweight most if not all of my life. I ,like most of the people here , have tried and failed at almost every diet known to man.
I have never been a real big advocate of gastric bypass because I work in healthcare and have seen some of the procedures gone wrong, so to speak.
Last spring, after a great trip to Hawaii I woke up one morning with a tremendous head ache that was so bad it made me sick.
I called in to work and immediatly went to bed, where I stayed the entire day, waking only to eat a little bit and right back till the next morning.
The following week, after a few other symptoms appeared, I was sent to have an MRI of my head. I was floored when my Dr. came to me to tell me he had found an infarct (stroke). The cause was probably long term high blood pressure.
Within a few weeks all signs of this stroke had disappeared and talk had started about a permanent weight loss program.
To make a long story short, after 1 year of medically supervised weight loss and fulfilling all of the requirements, my request was sent to my insurance (who I thought would immediatly deny).
It took them about a month, but I got a letter saying it was approved. I had my surgery on Sept 4th of 2008 and have not regretted it at all.
