I am a 43-year-old single mother, raising my daughter on my own for the last 14 years (she is 17 now). Weight has been an issue for me all of my life, I was a chubby child, an overweight teen, and now a morbidly obese adult, with large weight losses and even larger weight gains. I now have sleep apnea, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, GERD, and arthritis. I work in a very sedentary job (medical transcription) sitting in front of a computer 10-12 hours a day, which does not help! Unfortunately, the company I work for (and most of the national transcription companies), even though they are "healthcare" related companies, specifically exclude coverage of any weight loss surgery from their insurance policies. I have investigated self-pay options, but with my daughter going to be needing money for college soon, and I myself working on my bachelor's degree, along with house, car, etc., I doubt that I would get approved for financing. I can't afford to quit my job and try to find a job with insurance coverage for weight loss surgery, I have been with the company for almost 9 years now and any place I would go would be a large cut in pay. Not to mention that the economic situation in Michigan is not the best right now and might not be able to find a job! Not seeing much light at the end of the tunnel, feeling like life is passing me by :-(
