Time DOES fly when you are having fun!

Time DOES fly when you are having fun!

Whomever first said that time flies when you're having fun, was not exagerrating. Since my surgery, I've been getting out more and actually enjoying the city that I was born and raised in. Is it weird that I never really explored it? I found a group of friends that enjoy visiting different restaurants, and hangouts in the city and it's been great. I'm like a tourist in my hometown!
So, now I am below my goal weight. I could probably stand to lose 10 more pounds but I am truly happy where I am at on the scale and don't feel self conscious about my body so I am really not at all worried about it since I AM Happy and that is all that really matters.
The boyfriend of almost 10 years is gone because the secure man that I once knew left the building! He became totally insecure and accused me of cheating with a co-worker of his that lives in another city. That was weird in itself because he knew that I didn't care for him to do business with that person and then to accuse me of that, made things that much worse. He looked through my phone and found nothing but yet accused me because of what someone else told him. My guess is that whoever he was in conversation with, must've told him that his co-worker maybe said I looked nice because of my weightloss and then he let his mind go crazy from there. It was hard but I can't see myself under constant scrutiny because of his insecurities. Not even when I was overweight was I that insecure.
And yes, I know that some may think that it was his own guilty conscience but I can honestly say that he was 100% faithful...just alittle insecure once he noticed that others were paying more attention to me. However, that was his problem, not mine.
Well, Happy New Year to you all! I will set a reminder to come back more often!

Hmmmm...medical mystery?

Jun 30, 2009

Well, I went to my endocrinologist office yesterday and he checked my thyroid and said that my thyroid gland has shrunk and he doesnt know why?! He was very pleased with my weight loss thus far and said he didnt even recognize me.
I hadn't realized it but I'm down nearly 80 lbs! I thought it was around 70 so I'm really excited. I never thought that I'd be down this far. It's great. Things have been changing alot for me and some things have been challenging but I know that I can get through them and excited for what the future holds.

I won't hide anymore...

Apr 20, 2009

I never remember hiding but when I think back I don't know where I was. Looking at my before pictures brought me to this realization. Now, I remember not doing this or that, hiding from the camera or behind people when the camera was around. I remember not going swimming or wearing shorts because of my weight. But, I don't really remember hiding. It's definately not the same thing. By hiding, I realize that I lost myself and years of my life. I can't say that I was really living all these years that I've been overweight. Now that I'm 60 lbs lighter, I'm definately more social and have been getting out more. Not to say that I'm no longer overweight but I'm no longer morbidly obese. I guess in my head, I never thought of myself as 'big' as I was but I guess subconsciously, I knew I was. Otherwise, I wouldn't be saying I was lost all these years.
Anyhow, for anyone that is reading this, and not sure about whether or not WLS is right for them, I hope this helps. Regrets? I have no regrets at all. Wait, yes I do. I regret not having it SOONER!

5 month Surgiversary

Mar 26, 2009

Wow, I can't believe that it's been 5 months already! Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday, I was anxiously waiting for approval from my insurance! Wow, Wow, Wow.
I can't say enough how happy I am that I made the decision to have this surgery. After many months of research, I knew this was the best decision for me. I notice that I move around more and feel so much lighter. My knees  and ankles no longer hurt. I've been doing a total revamp of my backyard and my back doesn't hurt like it used to before. Sure it hurts alittle but nowhere near what it used to.
It's really a great feeling to wear my old clothes and be down a couple of sizes. I've lost 62 lbs in 5 months and just KNOW that without surgery, I would not have been able to lose even 10 lbs. It's nice to workout and actually see results. Before, I was working out and it was really frustrating that I wasn't losing weight or inches.
Actually, I'm having to get rid of about 90% of my closet because I only have 3 or 4 pairs of pants that still fit and 2 of those 4 are on the loose side. On one hand, it kind of stinks because I just bought some of these clothes and on the other, I GET TO BUY MORE. YAY! The best part is that I'll be able to find something and feel like I look good in it. It had been a very long time since I could say that.
Oh and I've gotten alot more compliments lately about looking too young to have 2 teenage sons. I got them before but now, I get them so much more often and keep hearing that I look like i'm in my 20s. That is a nice compliment!

Sharing my progress so far

Jan 13, 2009

Just thought that I'd post my progress for anyone that may read my posts and are not sure if WLS works! I'm living proof. I had/have hypothyroidism. I was told it wouldn't work for me but my endo said otherwise!

11 Weeks out

Jan 12, 2009

Well, slowly but surely, the weight is coming off. On one hand, I wish it would come off quicker and on the other, I'm glad that it's coming off slow because I worry about loose skin.  I think I'm just worried that I won't reach my goal weight. I still have about 30 more pounds to go so I guess I better bump up the workouts!

Labs

Jan 08, 2009

Well, I got my lab results back from my thyroid dr and my protein, calcium, etc all looks good. With the exception of 2 things. EOS%, which I have no clue what that is and one other thing. I go back to see my surgeon on the 15th, so I will take the results with me and see what he says.
I've still been alittle tired but not too bad and everything else seems fine. I noticed some shedding when I brushed my hair but I have a ton of it so I'm not too worried about it.

Happy New Year! Woo-hoo 2009!

Dec 31, 2008

Happy New Year to you all! I normally try to weigh only on Monday's since I had surgery on a Monday but with the New Year in, I decided to weigh myself and...drumroll please...I've lost a total of 38.5 pounds!
Now, there are sometimes that I think "I'm not losing fast enough." But then when I think about it, I realize that I couldn't lose much before, at all. 1 pound per month, was not cutting it. That said, I'm very happy and have NO regrets.

Today was time to visit my thyroid dr

Dec 30, 2008

Ok, so it was time to see my thyroid dr this morning and the assistant had my old weight on the scale already and said hop on! This is what you weighed last time...then I told her I had surgery and she was shocked at how much I've lost so far. LOL
She proceeded to take my waist measurement too. I think (should've written it down right away) that she said prior to surgery my measurement was 40 and now I am at 36.5! Yay! It may actually have been higher than 40 but I really can't remember. I will ask at my next visit in 3 months.
My endo was very pleased with my progress though and said that this is the best thing that I've ever done. Of course, he says this because he hasn't met either of my teenage sons. They're pretty awesome!
