Hello everyone and thanks for visiting my blog.  I have been tossing around the idea of WLS for many years now, but have never had the insurance coverage or the free cash to proceed.  I have taken a position with a company with insurance benefits covering all the procedures escept the VSG.  I initially was sold on the Lap-Band, because, quite frankly, I am a critical care nurse and the malabsorptive procedures scare me.  I have taken care of "train wreck" bariatric patients over the years in the ICU and my fears were reinforced.  I have had the acquaintance of many RNY patients as well, including a family member, and they had great initial results, only to regain their weight back after a few years.  But, now I am at a crossroads....I am at my heaviest weight and feel like I am "scooter bound!" and that fear is more real than my fear of surgical complications, to be quite honest.  So here I am, looking for information and insight into the correct choice of surgical options for my body type and lifestyle.  After I ruled out the Lap-Band, I chose the VSG, only to be told that my insurance will not cover it.....Now that I read more, I realize that I will probably strecth my sleeve out eventually ( and regain like all my RNY acquaintances), so the DS seems to be the most viable option.  Now,,,i am 3/4 complete with my insurance workup requirements and I am getting mixed information on the surgeon in my area.  So, I am reaching ou tto the OH community for information and insight.
