Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I am now 60yrs old and I had my open RNY in 2001. I was 49 almost 50...Even though I fought daily, during my teens and thru my late 30's I was always on a diet to stay medium..Up and down from 140-180lbs....During my 40's I became very ill and exploded to 300 lbs. I had trouble walking and rolling over or getting out of bed or out of a chair was so difficult. I was depressed and eventually went on disability..I just withdrew further and further...

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The pain.. I hurt everywhere all the time...The inability to fit in an airplane seat or use a seatbelt...No more amusement parks, or road trips. Not being able to get out of bed or a chair. I could not clip my toenails or even put on socks. Tying shoes was impossible..I was always out of breath.. THE WORST IS HOW OTHER PEOPLE TREAT YOU !!!

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Buying clothes off the rack and shopping at second hand stores. Riding roller coasters and sitting in seats and normal chairs. I still dont have shoes that tie and I get pedicures because I like it..but I can do all things that normal size people do. AND I CAN BREATHE
