Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

I have had weight issues since I was a child. My whole family is big. I lost weight but was still larger than most of the other children when I was in middle school. I was on the cheerleading squad and was very active so I stayed at a more normal, slightly larger weight through middle and high school.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worse thing about being overweight is not being able to move as fluidly as someone who is not. Also, I love girly stuff and cute clothes and it feels like I can never really express myself or share my own since of style. It's like I am confined to the fat girl section, which doesn't have a wide variety of choices. Although over the past few years the fat selection has gotten a bit better, I can't be the fashionista I'd really like to be. The fat suit is robbing me of my life and freedom of self expression.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

I have just been approved by my issurance to have the surgery and am waiting to get a surgery date. got my approval today, May 10, 2012.
