This guy may not have the most congenial bedside manner - he is sort of quiet- but he worked wonders on me. I sailed through surgery and it has now been a full year. No problems. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Ranjan Sudan is a wonderful surgeon. He has a wealth of knowledge. I highly recommend him for the RNY procedure. He is somewhat humble about all of his accomplishments that I have read about. I also loved his nurse practitioner, Kitza. She is great! So far I have no complaints about the Duke Weight Loss Surgery Center or Durham Regional Hospital. Everything went well. My recovery was slower than I had hoped, but I think that was just me.

Dr. Sudan is a great Doctor. He is quiet, but he knows his stuff. He is very confident in his work and does a great job. My surgery went well. The staff at Duke did a great Job at returning my calls and the insurance department did a great job at getting all of the required papers and documentation that I needed to get insurance approval. I look forword to working with Dr. Sudan in maining my aftercare. He's a great Doctor!

My first impression of Dr. Sudan was that he came across as very serious but I liked that. He was very thorough in answering my questions and very forth coming with information. The office staff have all been to my satisfaction thus far. I can't say that I least like anything about Dr. Sudan, so far I have no complaints. I love the fact that he wanted to know and meet the person that would be giving me aftercare; and he did. I am currently developing an aftercare program with my surgeon. He addressed my risk of surgery, as well as the whole staff team, in a very straightforward way. Nothing was sugar coated but at the same time I felt safe enough to go through with this despite the risk factors. Overall, results of surgery pending, I would rate Dr. Sudan a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10 simply b/c I need to have more interaction with him to know for sure, but so far I like what I've seen. Both are great, but surgical competence far outweigh, for me anyway, bedside manner.

So far so good. My first impression was someone who cares about his work and his patients. Takes Pride and Ownership.

I began to research him through websites and people who have had him in the past and have heard lots of really great things.

I have only personally met with him twice since the original seminar where he spoke. I still have the same general impression, he is someone that cares about his patients. When surgery is over....I will try to remember to update!

2/18/11 Surgery went great. He did a very good job!! I give Dr. Sudan a big Thumbs Up! I've had a few questions/issues and he came to the office between surgeries to see and chat with me. Gave me his opinion, and did a diagnostic test just to confirm. All seems to be OK, but I was very pleased with the attention he gave to my concerns.

Dr. Sudan is an expert in performing the Duodenal Switch. He is a no-nonsense guy with a great deal of professionalism that I appreciated when performing my surgery. If you have any questions about my experience with Duke or Dr. Sudan please feel free to contact me.

Dr. Sudan saved my life! I had been having stomach pains that were getting worse and worse. I was nauseated and had lost over 50 lbs. I had been under the care of other physicians for 7 years, trying to diagnose my problem. I went to UNMC, September 2001, and saw Dr. Timothy McCashland who did numerous tests and, who turned me over to Dr. Sudan for an exploratory. Under anesthesia, my heartbeat became irregular. Dr. Sudan instantly recognized my symptoms as being a carcinoid tumor and removed 18 inches of intestine, forever curing my horrid pain and nausea my tiny tumors were creating. I can never sing his praises highly enough. As well, he is a pleasant man with a wonderful bedside manner.

Dr Sudan performed my RNY on 12/11/12. He is an awesome surgeon, and I am happy that I took this step to change my life. His bedside manners are top notch, and I felt comfortable asking any questions. Thank You DR Sudan!

My first impression of Dr. Sudan was a good one. He was very thorough. I have no complaints of his staff, however, they are very hard to get in contact with via telephone. Overall it was a pretty good experience. They were willing to work with my appointments, being that I drive quite a ways to my appointments.

I am still sitting in the hospital (post op day 3) as I write this. I have been really pleased with Dr. Sudan and all of the staff at Duke Metabolic. Cathy, his Admin Assistant, called me even on Sundays to get my appointments straight and my questions answered; when some changes came up in Dr. Sudan's schedule she went above and beyond to get me a surgery date that would work with my insurance company rollover (saving me thousands of dollars) and everyone I've had to deal with in the office has been great. Patrick, the nutritionist, has been fantastic, and Barbara, Dr. Sudan's nurse, is very nice. Dr. Sudan checked on me every day and made sure I got all my questions answered very thoroughly, and was really understanding with things I was anxious about.

Update: 8 days postop: this has been the smoothest recovery of any surgery I've had-and this is by far the most major. I have five incisions that are healing beautifully (and look like there will be minimal scarring); the only bruising I have is around the JP drain site, which is also itself just about closed. I've not had any problems tolerating foods, no nausea, and really just the expected incisional pain. As an RN, I have to say this is turning out to be a five-star recovery and I'm looking forward to the rest of the process.
