Dr. Bruce did an awesome job with my RNY surgery, his bedside manner and post op support is #1. He explained everything in clear layman terms, and was very empathic to difficulties that may have arose as my post op continued. Thanks so much Dr. Bruce for giving me my life back! You are awesome!

Dr. D. Schumacher did an excellent job on my Roux en Y gastric bypass. It's been right at 2 years and I am 3 lbs from my goal weight, which I would have already hit if I didn't sneak foods that I shouldn't now and then. I have lost 164 lbs over the last 2 years and I feel amazing. He and his staff were courteous, respectful, and fully explained everything to me prior to my surgery. I had issues post op due to my blood not wanting to bind with proteins and he kept me in the hospital for 5 days until he was satisfied that the issues were resolved. At my 6 month evaluation, he again went over the possible complications of the surgery in regards to gall bladder failure, and about a month later I started having symptoms. When I went to the ER, the first doctor I saw said he didn't think it was bad enough to remove. I requested them to call in Dr. Schumacher, who without hesitation admitted me and removed the gall bladder which was completely dead! Anyone considering having this surgery should first research on their own and then sit down with him and have a honest open conversation about what you want, what your concerns are, and what your expectations are. You will be required to sit though an informational briefing prior to seeing him, which will give you the opportunity to learn about the various procedures. Originally I went in wanting the lap band but with my family background and medical history I decided on the Roux instead after talking with him. The only down side is that his practice is busy so it can be hard to get in from time to time so be patient. :)

Dr. Brown is a very nice man. He forgot my name a couple times, but I suppose he sees a lot of patients in a day - along with many surgeries. He is actually new to the Dayton, OH area. I believe he was originally from KY. He is in practice with Dr. David Schumacher at Kettering Hospital. They are a center of excellence. My surgery went as planned - took 2 1/2 hours and was done laproscopically.
He made sure on the occasions when I had to see him that I was definitely wanting to do the RNY and he asked me the day of the surgery. He answered all my questions in detail.
I was very satisfied with my surgery - and have no complaints. I would recommend his practice to anyone in the Dayton, OH area. They program they have is amazing and they are always wanting to make sure everything is going as planned for you and are constantly making sure that you have your scheduled appointments set. I am very happy with my decision in Dr. and in hospital!

I have absolutely no complaints about Dr Bruce as far as my surgery is concerned. Everything went very well. As for his bedside manner....I don't think he has much of one. On my follow up visits, he seemed like he was in a hurry to get in, look me over, then get out. At my first follow up visit when I told him I had a whole list of questions, he did take the time to answer them, but I felt like he thought I was holding him up. (I guess I'm just used to my family doctor who will sit down and ask me questions and take the time to go over any and all questions I have.) I wish Dr Bruce would take some time and ask me questions about my progress (and even give me some encouragement or show some excitement as to my progress). I would definitely recommend Dr Bruce as a surgeon, but don't expect to get personalized attention.

1.My first impression of Dr. Brown was that he was personable, and knowledgeable. I was impressed with his concern for his patients and the time and care he put into making sure I was ready for my decision. His office staff is willing to work with you about everything from surgical help to appointments. Overall, I was very happy with the whole office experience. Just follow the directions given to you by Dr. Brown and his staff and you will be on your way to WLS. They are experienced in getting approvals and willing to work with you throughout the whole process. Dr Brown made sure that any and all surgical risks were told to me at my appointments. He also made sure that any bodily risk was minimized as he was willing to check for inconsistencies with my health and tell me that he would solve another one of my health issues during surgery. He asked me questions during my appointment to make sure that I was following all procedures and that I was healthy enough for my undertaking. I would rate Dr. Brown as a 10 out of 10 as far as physician's knowledge, beside manner and overall health expert.I am positive that this physician is one of the best I have seen concerning WLS, overall health and follow-up care.

I first met Dr. Bruce from Dayton Bariatrics after my primary care doctor had referred me for bariatric surgery and my insurance co suggested him for my surgeon. I was very impressed when I went to the informational seminar that he gave and at that time made my decision that he would be my surgeon. I had initially chose the lap band surgery for myself for several reasons and he felt that it was best for me. I see Dr. Bruce in his office twice pre-op and again of course in the hosptital. He was very very informative and willing to answer any questions I may have no matter what time or what day. I feel that he is a very good surgeon and had a very good bed-side manner. He cares very much for his patients and the success of their new lifestyle. I would suggest Dr. Bruce as a surgeon to anyone that was considering bariatric surgery. His office staff has also been very helpful both pre op and post op.

My impression of Dr. Bruce is that he is very knowledgeable in the field of bariatric. His office staff is always professional and friendily and went beyond the call of duty to get me approved by my insurance company. Dr. Bruce also operated on my 18 year old son successfully. I felt that I was given all the necessary information to have the perfect outcome I had. I have lost 110 pounds and went from a size 20 to 4 and some size 2. He was always available to answer any of my questions or concerns. I would give him a favorable rating and would refer him to anyone in the Dayton area that is thinking about having bariatric surgery. I think that overall I want my doctor to have surgical competence over bedside manner because having him/her perform surgery will have a life time affect on me where as he will only be at my bed for less than a week and I can deal with that :). But I think Dr. Bruce had both surgical competence and great bedside manners. I really don't have anything negative to say about my experience with Dr. Bruce or any of his staff. Also Grandview Hospital staff was awesome also.
