My experience with Dr. Lopez Corvala and the staff at Obesity Control Clinic was amazing! Right away he put me at ease with the procedure. I felt well informed about what I was going to need to do afterwards. They did thorough exams to make sure I was fit for surgery. They were always just a phone call away with any questions I had before hand. I would highly recommend him and his entire staff. Sometimes language was a barrier with the nurses but not with the Doctors. We had a bit of a misunderstanding with the transportation and they brought me to the hospital instead of the hotel but we did plan my surgery at the last minute and I came in a day early which most people don't do. They quickly straightened it out and we got back on track. While in the hospital besides the nurses, I was checked on frequently by OCC staff. I was well cared for. They also sent me home with clear and extensive aftercare information that I refer to often.

Great Doctor & very helpful staff. I wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again with them.rnI do wish I had a little more frequent followup from them, but no problem, they're always reachable if I need them.

upon first meeting him upon passing to and from pre op testing, i felty he was a wonderful man, very open, caring and i was very happy to know him and his staff were the people i had entrusted myself to. everyone in the office was wonderful, i was origionally worried about a language barrier, but unbelieveabbly i didnt find that to be an issue at all... some spoke perfect english, others broken, but i had no problems finding out info and asking questions.

My first impression of Dr. Lopez Corvala and his staff was "wow". I couldn't believe that I could have such a great physician, with such excellent credintials perform this procedure for me! I was a bit hesitant at first to go to Mexico, but once I learned the history of the lapband my decision was only more confirmed.

Future patients should know that this is a surgeon of the highest calibur. He has a great bedside manner and his staff treat you like you are royalty. One of the reasons I chose him over other Mexico doctors is that as I toured other doctors facilities, I found his to be using US standards. I would prefer to go to Dr. Lopez than to have surgery at my local Kaiser Permanente. The hospitals he uses, including what is commonly called a "clinic" are emaculate. He uses facilities that are top of the line and state of the art!!

Dr. Lopez has a great aftercare program. For those unable to return to him, he makes sure that you have aftercare set up near you. His staff are available 24/7 to answer any concerns that may come up post-op.

His staff of doctors, nutritionist, and local as well as US coordinators explain all aspects of the surgery and aftercare wonderfully. They go beyond the call of duty to help their patients understand the psychological changes and other changes needed to become a successful bandster. I think they can become really busy at times, so in the past I have had to wait a day or so for a reply regarding scheduling a fill with them, but when I have had an important question, they are speedy.

I have only become more of a believer in Dr. Lopez and his staff. I am almost one year post op at the time of writing this review.
The only difficulty I have is sometimes due to not knowing Spanish. Sometimes it takes a bit of time for me to get my point across, especially over the phone.

I believe that surgical competence is by far what we need to focus on when deciding upon a doctor. Too many people are thinking that a doctor who has done 300 or less lapband surgeries is a great choice. I can't imagine going to anyone with 50 or so surgeries only. Dr. Lopez teaches our US doctors this procedure and has done over 1,500 lapband procedures world wide!!!!! That is what is important above all else.

My first impressions was that Dr. Lopez is a very professional man, with very little in bedside manner area, but after surgery he appeared to be very concerned. The staff were very professional, organized and friendly. Dr. Lopez is always in a hurry and has a shortness about him, but if you start asking him questions, he opens up and talks your leg off. Dr. Lopez has done a great number of lap-band procedures that chances for problems is much less. Dr. Lopez does recommend that you visit a doctor closer to your home for continued care. His after care program is very structured and easy to follow. Dr. Lopez did take the time to explain any problems that might arise due to the surgery. I would give him a 9 of a 1-10 rating. His surgical competence was his greatest asset.

I did all of my scheduling via phone and email, so I did not meet Dr. Lopez until the night before my surgery. He was very courteous and understood the trials and tribulations of the M.O. person. He takes great pride in helping us achieve our goals.
He has a fantastic staff who are all extremely helpful.
I had all of my pre-op work done the day of surgery. Surgery went great, I was only in the hospital for 3 days, most of which I slept. I then went to a hotel for one day before flying back home.
The only thing that I was disappointed in is that no one helped me to find a fill doctor in the U.S. for aftercare. I am desperately in need of a fill, and cannot find a doc who is accepting patients of Mexican docs.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Lopez a 10! He is kind and most of all knowledgeable. He has performed over 1,000 of these lap band surgeries. Even though I only met him 24 hours prior to surgery, I totally trusted in him.

Dr. Rivas was amazing! He let me know what was happening the entire time...before, during and after. I told him I usually had horrible nausea from anesthesia so he gave me 4 different nausea medicines before and during my surgery. Need less to say, I had no sickness at all! He listened to everything i told him and was very professional. His English was also impeccable.

Had survery at Hosp Angeles with Dr Corvala. His reputation is well deserved. Great experience and would high recommend this world renowned surgeon

I chose dr corvala at hospital angeles in TJ. I like that fact the surgery is in a full scale real hospital with 100 plus beds and an ER and not a clinic they call a "bariatric hospital." that gives me more piece of mind if something goes wrong and I like being able to recover in a real hospital where the nurses will help me with the recovery process versus being all alone say in the TJ marriot after having a surgery. Dr. Corvala is also the most experienced surgeon in TJ who as taught many of the other surgeons. I'm paying 6500 for the package which appears to be more than the other surgeons in TJ but I believe you get what you pay for and don't want to go cheap on such a serious surgery that could mess one up for life it is botched. Dr corvala and hospital angeles offer the best quality to price ratio in north america in my opinion but i will be able to give a more accurate assessment after I have the surgery. note they just raised their price to 7500.
