    Alvaro Galvez, MD, has seen firsthand the negative health impacts of obesity. That personal experience, combined with a passion for medicine and technology, has guided his career path. “After witnessing the amazing results and quick recovery after general and bariatric surgery using laparoscopy and robotics, I found my future in surgery,” he says. “I could not be happier and more excited with my choice of specialty.”

    Dr. Galvez earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Universidad Mayor de San Andres in La Paz, Bolivia. He completed his general surgery residency at Drexel University College of in Philadelphia, PA, and his fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Saint Luke’s University Health Network in Allentown, PA. At AtlantiCare Physician Group, Surgical Associates Dr. Galvez specializes in laparoscopic and robotic surgery, with a focus on bariatric and foregut surgery. Using minimally invasive techniques, his goal is to provide care designed to minimize the impact of surgery and ensure the quickest postoperative recovery time.

    Additionally, Dr. Galvez is a well-published author and presenter in national and international conferences on the topics of weight loss and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Galvez spent part of his formative years training at AtlantiCare and was eager to return to an environment committed to excellence and compassionate care. “I trained at AtlantiCare and did not think twice when the opportunity to return presented itself. I know the area and patients well, and I could not be happier to give back to the community that gave me so much,” he says. “I am excited to offer the impressive benefits of minimally invasive and weight loss surgery to the patients that helped me become the surgeon I am today.” Dr. Galvez is fluent in Spanish. In his free time he enjoys writing music and pursuing his passion for the guitar and piano, exercise, and long walks along the Atlantic City Boardwalk.
