  • About Me
    Caitlin Halbert, D.O., MS, FASMBS is a board-certified general surgeon with a focus in Bariatric and Foregut surgery. She practices at Christiana Care and is the Assistant Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program. After completing a Masters of Science in Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Halbert received her medical education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She went on to complete her General Surgery residency training at Christiana Care Health System in Delaware.  She then received specialty training at Stony Brook University Hospital, completing a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery. Dr. Halbert specializes in bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and roux-en-y gastric bypass. Her practice also includes foregut surgery, with a focus on the treatment of achalasia, gastrointestinal reflux disease, and hiatal and diaphragmatic hernias. Dr. Halbert is actively involved in national organizations, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery (SAGES) and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). She has authored several publications and has presented at a number of regional and national conferences. Patient safety and quality of care are at the center of Dr. Halbert's personal philosophy.  She believes in creating an individualized care plan for every patient based on sound evidence-based research.  Dr. Halbert values a strong collegial team of dedicated healthcare professionals.  With the utilization of a team approach, patients receive the best possible care with optimal outcomes. She specializes in bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, roux-en-y gastric bypass and revisional bariatric surgery.   Her practice also includes foregut surgery, with a focus on the treatment of achalasia, gastrointestinal reflux disease, and hiatal and diaphragmatic hernias. Additionally, Dr. Halbert has a special interest in medical education.  She enjoys teaching and mentoring at all levels, from high school students to residents.  She has a true love and passion for her career and eagerly shares that enthusiasm with her students.
