My first impression of Dr. Koura and his staff was a very comfortable and pleasant one. Everyone was friendly and answered any questions that I had. This impression has not changed and I am 9 months out. The only bad thing was the long drive for me, but that was due to my insurance. I would recommend Dr. Koura to anyone considering gastric bypass. He is hands on in his aftercare. You see him at each office visit unlike several others that have you see an assistant. His office is there if you have any questions and he has a dietician on staff always willing to help. He addresses the risks of surgery and also the different types available. Me, I rate him a 10+. I think surgical competence and bedside manner are both outstanding.

Thus far I really like him. He is really funny. I really like his office staff as well. I will tell more after my surgery I will be able to answer of these questions better.

He is a great doctor. I can not begin to tell you how great his staff and he are. He put me on his surgery schedule without seeing me after another local doctor messed up my surgery date and authorization (Dr. Machado- :( i wouldn't use her unless you insurance requires it). I love Dr. Koura! I have lost 100 lbs in 11months with lap band. He did everything top-notch. He is a very nice, very funny man. I thank god for his having been my surgeon.

My surgery went very smoothly, not complications. I was surprised at how quickly I recovered.

Absolutely awesome Surgeon. A great team. Love the support group and the office staff. Every thing turned out so well and attention to detail is amazing. Really makes something as scary as surgery seem so easy and relaxing to get through it.

Dr. Koura is very kind and understanding. He is through with your medical care and pre-op.The staff is also very nice. The clinic is a great supporter of aftercare, support groups.rnEverything is throughly covered. I would not in any way change the care and kindness I have received through Dr. Koura's office.

I love Dr. Koura. His sense of humor put me at eaze the first day I met him. His office staff is also great. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. Answered all my questions very thoroughly.

At first I wasn't too sure about my surgeon because I couldn't find any information on him when I did a web search, but felt better after my first visit to his office. He seemed very confident and knowledgeable. Every time I have met with him my appointments have been very quick. Everyone I have met who has had contact with Dr. Koura have nothing but nice things to say. He performed my surgery (RNY and gallbladder removal) very quickly; about 2 1/2 hrs if I remember correctly. My only complaint would be the lack of instructions from him upon discharge. He didn't tell me I had staples in my incisions and I needed to get them removed within 7 to 10 days, so I made my first check-up appt later and then had to change it after a bandage fell off at 2 weeks out and I noticed the staples. They became infected and hurt quite a bit when they were finally removed. And now I have scars from the staples, which are much more noticeable than the incisions themselves.

Dr. Koura is very approachable, listens and has a great sense of humor. The office staff is pleasant and efficient. rnrnDr. Koura met with family members to instruct them on what was taking place and how they could support the process. My daughter was very satisfied with his discussion with her after the surgery.rnrnThe monthly support group meetings are very important to me. They provide great information and commardarie. Need the after support to prevent slipping into old patterns.rnrnMy only down side to the surgery was the hospital facility. It is under construction and hopefully it was temporary situations that will be solved by the construction. Too much stuff stored in the hallways, staff not familiar with how everything worked, where it was plugged in at, how to shut it off. Two staff nurses asked why I had the surgery, their were to scared to have it. Thought that was an odd question to ask someone who had just had the surgery.

I deceided to have WLS in May of 07. After contacting my insurance company and PCP, I was \"assigned\" to Dr. Koura.rnrnI first met Dr K at one of the semiars. I found himvery personable, charming. Although I never really understoond the analogy; but I didn't care, I was going to get skinny.rnrnMy first appointment at Dr. K's office proved to be very disappointing. However, in his defense, he was losing an employee, training another and moving his offices all in one week........that's enough to stress anyone out.rnrnBefore I get to far into this storey, I need to exxplain how \"upset\" I was to being going to this Hospital, and to the area it is located.rnrnBack to the storey.........after my first appointment, I went home and called athe insurance company. I told them I wanted a new Surgeon........I felt ingored, and dismissed. My case manager, Rosemary: someone you hope to find when you're going through all this, told me it D.r K or no surgery, as my insurance company.....well I really never knew why.......but decidede I wanted to lose this weight and it's only be 3 days. rnrnSo my next appointment with Dr. K was at his new office, and new employee.........WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!! Here was the Dr. I had met before...........only nice, more compassioniate, and with one of the best sense of humors I've seen. His bedside maanner is what got me through all this.rn rnSo, saw him Thursday and the next Monday, I was being wheeled into the operatiing room. rnAs I saw Dr. K, first thing I asked, how awake are you and did you have coffee this morning? His answer: You're my second one today, and I'm wide awake.rnrnI felt so good by the next time I saw him, he asked me how I felt, and told hiom with my hands. how do you feel? As he laughed, he replied.you're ready to be discharged.rnrnI've seen Dr. K several time since, at scheduled appointment and monthly group meeting; and all I can say is I'm sure glad my insurance \"assigned me to Dr. K.rnrnIn fact, I carry his cards and hand them to anyone who's interest in WLS.rnrnHow would I rate Dr. K? If I ever have to have another operation, of any kind, HE'S THE MAN!!!rn rn rnrnrnrn rn rn
