    Dr. David Provost, Bariatric Surgeon

    David Provost, MD, FACS is a highly-regarded, nationally recognized bariatric surgeon with more than 20 years of surgical experience. As one of the nation's foremost weight loss surgeons, he pioneered the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in Texas having first performed the procedure in 1999. Dr. Provost brings his expertise in bariatric surgery to the Baylor Scott & White Weight Loss Surgery Program.

    Because of his expertise and precision surgical skills, he has the distinction of having educated and trained hundreds of surgeons worldwide. Board-certified, he specializes in minimally invasive weight loss surgery and serves as the Chief of Bariatric and General Surgery at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. He earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he also completed his internship and residency and later became an assistant professor.  He went on to fellowship train in surgical critical care at the University of Minnesota.

    Dr. Provost is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgical Critical Care, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

    In addition, he served as President of The ASMBS Foundation in 2011 and was appointed to the Executive Council for the ASMBS. Dr. Provost also serves as the Secretary of the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgery and of the Texas Chapter of ASMBS. Having received numerous awards, D Magazine named him as one of the best bariatric surgeons in Dallas for six years in a row and Texas Monthly named him a Texas Super Doctor in 2008. Dr. Provost currently serves as an associate editor for the official ASMBS journal, SOARD, and has been a respected leader in the national accreditation of bariatric centers.
