Garth Davis Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS, FASMBS

My first impression of him was....\"WOW!\" He is so impressive! Forget the fact that he is quite good-looking, smart, and witty (geeze, can I forget that???), but he is so reassuring and empathetic. He seems so knowledgeable of the procedure and comfortable that he eases any fears I may have. He really seems to understand the struggle that many of us are going through and that it cannot always be oversimplified by \"just stay away from McDonald's\". I am usually a skeptical person by nature, but I totally trust Dr. Davis and feel very comfortable putting my health in his hands.

I think the world of Dr. Garth Davis!!!

I have a co- worker who had Dr. Davis and heard some fantastic reports about him. When I met him, I was immediately impressed. He listened to every single concern and answered all of my questions. He never rushed the appointment and took time to get to know what MY needs were. Lana in his office was there for me step by step to get my insurence approved, when I was stuck, she held my hand and assured me we can do it!!! After my surgery, Dr. Davis has been the BEST. He makes you feel like family. He is professional, caring, informative and actually gets to know you. He even allows you to email him with questions and we are never bothering him, that is what he was there for- us his patients!!!!I went to a support group that He is part of!!!! When I raised my hand, He KNEW my name- what doctor after hundreds of surgeries knows your name???? I work in the medical field and I am picky of who cares for me. I would recommend Dr. Davis to the world. I have the best doctor ever!!!!!!

Dr Garth Davis is very informative. I went to his seminar and it was very informative he was not rushed and took the time to answer every queston. I foung it intreasting that over 90 percent of diets end in weight reregain!!rnAfter care was streased is the key to losing weight with the lap band. He asked for a comitment to it to all the people at the semanar who would chose WLS. Overall so far he has a high rating although I have not had my sugery yet. I had my sugery on July 26 (last Wednesday). It was Lap Band and every thing went well. Got to go home the same day. Everyone was very nice and helpfull.rnToday is Sunday August 20th. It has been 3 and 1/2 weeks since my surgery and I have lost 30 lbs so far. I am very pleased with the lap band and Dr davis. I would recomend Dr. Garth Davis and The Lap Band.rnrnToday is September 07th. I had my 6 week folow up apoitment with Dr Davis. I have Lost 35 LBS so far. I have the Vangard band and I recived a ttl fill of 5cc .Overall as every thing so far it was very un eventfull.(that is a good thing). I had no plin at all. It was no different than getting a regular shot. I continue to be very pleased with procedure and Dr davis. I am not hungry and feel GREAT. I had a lot of asid reflux before the sugery for many years. I have had none and am not taking any med. for it from the day of the procedure. That is GREAT!! All of my concerns I had about getting the Lap Band before have been a non event and I would recomend the procedure and Dr Garth Davis. What a change and it has only been a short time. I realy feel like I am loosing weight to keep it off for good this time and what a GREAT feeling.

Dr. Garth Davis is a wonderful surgeon. My husband and I were very pleased with his ability to inform us on all the aspects of the surgery. The Doctor did informed us of all the risks and answered all the question about risks. He is caring and very patient friendly. You are treated with respect and kindness at all times. His office is run like a well oiled machine. He and his staff take care of there patients and treat them like family. It is a breath of fresh air. They never fail to answer question and never get up set if you call more than once to get a question asked. After surgery I had to call the office with questions I was concerned about. His staff took the extra time to talk to me and give me the help I needed.
Dr. Davis emphasizes aftercare very much and wants all his patients to go to the group meetings. He has a structured aftercare program. It is the patients job to go to the after care to help themselves. It is a good after care program and getting better all the time.

I rate Dr. Davis as one of the top surgeons in Houston for WLS surgery. His competence is excellent and his bedside manner is wonderful.
He is really interested in his patients and cares how well they do with the surgery. He takes a personal interest in our well being. His patients are not just numbers on a page and it shows in the treatment you receive from him. I have had a very good experence with the Doctor and staff.

My surgeon was Dr.Garth Davis. From the moment I met this man I knew that he was going to provide me with the best care. He just seemed so caring and genuine and very soft spoken and I'm very glad I chose him. He was upfront about all the risks as well. The very thing that I like best about this surgeon is whenever I've had any questions or concerns I'm able to speak directly with him and not be passed off to tens of other people. It shows me that he considers my well being important and worth his time. Overall his whole demeanor would right a 10 in my book.

My first impression of Dr. Davis was that he is very knowledgeable and thorough. I have continued to gain more evidence that this is true over the times I've met with him and through my investigations of him. Phoebe, his nurse, is a wonderful, kind person. Dr. Davis wanted me to lose some weight on my own before surgery, so that the surgery is safer. I did so (83 pounds), and I think that contributed to my quick recovery.

He is very up front with all of the potential risks of surgery. It's like he puts it all on the table for you to consider as you make this life changing decision. He does not do it in a scary way, just very matter of fact...this is the risk, here's how many patients I've had who had the problem...so you can consider everything.

After care is important to Dr. Davis. He schedules regular follow up visits and expects you to attend the support group each month.

Dr. Davis has a great "bedside manner", making you feel good about being under his care. He's an amazingly talented surgeon, and he takes the time with you to make you feel like you understand everything. At one point in the process, he told me that I have a hernia and that I still can't have the surgery because I had not lost enough, he was very patient with me as I fought back tears. The news was hard to take, but he was very supportive and even told me that one day we will look back on this and laugh. I can say now that I'm post op that he was right!

Dr. Garth is an amazing surgeon, and I'm glad that I found him to perform my RNY. I'd definitely rate him a 10.

Dr. Garth Davis at first hand displayed a passion and excitement about bariatric surgery. After meeting with him the first time, I knew that I wanted him to be my surgeon. I felt at ease discussing my weight problems and future goals with him. He was very encouraging but also honest about the risks of this surgery. Dr. Davis is wonderful and there was nothing post surgery that came as a surprise. He prepared me well for what to expect post op by discussing it with me and giving me text to read. Anytime I had a question, he or his staff were/are readily available to answer. Dr. Davis and his staff ALWAYS did what they said they were going to do as far as insurance and setting appointments for me. Dr. Davis does have a structured aftercare program that he strongly encourages his patients to participate in. Dr. Davis is a wonderful surgeon; highly skilled, compassionate and displays a REAL interest and concern for all his patients. I have and will continue to recommend him to anyone who is interested in this type of surgery!!

Dr. Garth Davis is in practice with his father, Robert Davis, at Houston Surgical Associates. Very intelligent, well-versed in bariatric surgery and the research surrounding obesity. He is the medical director for Methodist Hospital's Weight Management Program. Excellent program with required informational meeting, thorough pre-op assessment and established after care program as well as offering a medical weight loss option if you aren't interested in surgery. Dr. Davis is very up front and thorough about addressing all the risks associated with surgery. Jury is still out on his office staff. I am nervous about the surgery but not with having Dr. Davis as my surgeon (as a nurse I am pretty critical).

I would rate Dr. Davis as a very thorough and excellent surgeon. His bedside manner is also great-very easygoing and pleasant!
Wouldn't go any other way!!

I saw Dr. Garth Davis. Went to his seminar and then had a consultation same day. He was really good. He went thru the seminar and answered everyone's questions. He didn't rush us.

When I went in for the one on one he took his time. Answered other things I had thought of. He did make sure I understood the risks, the possible complications, etc.

His office staff was very nice, but I have only had limited contact with them so far. The office manager gave me her card, and Dr. Garths, and said we can call them ANYTIME if we need to.

They are working on a complete program for bariatrics. They will have everything you need in one place. Including a nutritionist you can call on after your surgery.

Overall I would rate Dr Davis and his staff very highly. If that changes I will update! I know these reviews were helpful to me over the past year as I settled on a doctor.

As to which is better, surgical skill or bedside manner? I would prefer both! But I would say give me a great surgeon over a nice guy anyday!

Update! Dr. Garth is the best surgeon, best doctor, I have ever met. He took such good care of me, and went way beyond with calls to check on me after I was home. I did have a few complications, but he was right on top of things. I have to rate him an 11!!
