I had my RNY gastric bypass in 1998, by Dr. Sapala when he practiced in Jackson, Michigan. I had my surgery done at Detroit Riverview Hospital. I have had NO complications at all and went from 239 lbs to between 150 and 160 depending on some of my meds that I take. I'm 5'2" and this surgery has made a huge difference in my life. I don't know when or why Dr. Sapala left Jackson, but I wish he would have stayed!

I just celebrated the one year anniversary of my gaqstric bypass surgery and I want to THANK Dr. Sapala for changing my life in such a profound way. I have lost over 100 pounds and all my previous health problems are just a memory. Not only is Dr. Sapala AMAZING as always, but the entire office staff as well. Mary,Alicen and Leanne- I LOVE you all. We now also have Denise and Dr. Anoosh that have joined the practice in the lpast year, so it just keeps getting better and better. Dr. Sapala's office is a full service office for the bariatric patient. Not only is he a wonderful surgeon but his staff is equally as wonderful. There is a support group to help you get through the rough spots (if you have any). I recommed that if you are considering any type of bariatric surgery, you start here. You will get all the answers you need to make the biggest decision of your life.

Dr Sapala and Dr Anoosh are amazing! The care and understanding I received is amazing! I am so happy to be on my second chance at life! Any questions feel free to send me a message but the entire office is amazing! The nutritionist Mary is always on target! And Leeann and Allison are so helpful! This is a place where you feel so comfortable. Dr Sapala has a holistic approach to weight loss. His support group, nutritionist, and office staff are more than health care providers they are life savers.

I first met Dr. Sapala in 2005, where he performed a revision of my gastric bypass in 1993. At first I just wanted the surgery to lose the weight, but I really didn't follow anything that I was supposed to do. Mary, the Dietician (his right hand)told me that I would have to take vitamins for the rest of my life. I just yes her to death, had the surgery, and failed! After 5yrs later I found myself climbing up the scale back to where I was before! I spoke with my cousin who also had the surgery in Texas, she kept on insisting that I contact Dr. Sapala again! Long story short, I did and was surprised that Mary remembered me! I was so imbarrassed that I was back up to my weight, I told her I was afraid to call but she treated me with kid gloves, made me feel like a part of a family. I went to see Dr. Sapala again, who also remembered me. He greeted me with open arms! He's the best, he's caring, very knowledgeable and KNOWS HIS SURGERY!! I had the revision, I feel better than ever! I still see him monthly, go to support group and Mary is still by my side! While in the hospital, Dr. Sapala was there everyday! He always was very positive, even to this day! I love Dr. Sapala, he's my angel, he gave me another chance at life! I follow every word he speaks, I have changed my way of living, eating and excercising! I would never get on treadmill, now I'm on it for 20 minutes! I had my surgery on Sept.28, 2010 and have lost 25lbs! I'm excited and Dr. Sapala made me this way! He is the best surgeon ever! His bedside manner is the best! He treated me as one of his family members! He is full of encouragement everytime you meet with him! If you are contemplating to have bariatric surgery, look no further DR. SAPALA is your MAN! The staff at his office and at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital are the best ever! It felt like being in a resort to me! The caring nurses at Brookhaven were unbelievable! Dr. Sapala is your man for the job! He will not let you down, nor will his excellent staff!

Dr. Sapala was on the question and answer panel (along with his nutritionist Mary Zoto) at the Sexy in the City Confrence this past weekend. They both did a fantastic job. I encouraged several people I met at the confrence to attend the presentation and they were all impressed.
I consider myself so very fortunate to have such a knowledable and outstanding surgeon and support team at Brookhaven Hospital Bariatric and Wellness Program.

If you are not coming to the support group, you are really missing out on a lot of valuable information along with an amazingly good time. We have so much fun at these meetings, it really uplifts me for the rest of the month. Meeting all of the pre op and post op patients and making new friends is such an important part of the weight loss surgery experience. Dr. Sapala, Mary, LeeAnn, Allison,and Pat make it easy to stay on track. Now we have Denise keeping us on track with our vitamins and supplements. It just keeps getting better and better. I have a new, happy life which I owe to Dr. Sapala and his amazing staff. Don't be scared, this is the best place to come to for your weight loss needs. Do this for you, you owe it to yourself. Just want to share an update with everyone. I remain a patient of Dr. Sapala's and our support group is celebrating our 2nd year anniverary this month. We just had our annual picnic which was a big success. I would not be the healthy, happy person I am today if it were not for Dr. Sapala. He is an amazing doctor and an even more wonderful person. Was a patient of dr. Sapala he stuck by me Like Glue and made me feel like I could do anything to make myself healthier and better I have just found out that he had passed away and I'm so sad. Till the day I wanted to know are he swore to me but no matter what if he could not do the operation that he would stick by me and he would train me and he would help me to get to my goal but he was so happy when I woke up and he said that we did it and he's right for me to do it because at this point I lost 100 pounds because of him and encouragement that he had given me and you made me feel like you and being he didn't make me feel like somebody please from the bottom of my heart truly be missed
