Manuel E. Castro-Arreola, MD, Ph.D., FACS is a board-certified bariatric and general surgeon serving as the Medical Director at Methodist Charlton Bariatrics. Having performed more than 4,500 weight loss surgeries, he has over 20 years of experience as a dedicated bariatric surgeon.

Dr. Castro earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma De Chihuahua in Mexico and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Experimental Surgery from the University of Alberta, Canada. He completed his residency in General Surgery at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, and completed his fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Minnesota Hospitals & Clinics in Minneapolis.

In addition to serving as the Medical Director at Methodist Charlton Bariatrics, Dr. Castro has held a number of other prestigious positions including serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of the Trauma Program at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in El Paso, Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery, President of the El Paso Surgical Society, Director of Critical Care Committee, Member of Expert Physician Panel of the Texas Medical Board, Instructor of Surgery and Trauma.

Dr. Castro is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a member of The American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and a member of the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgery (TABS). He has authored and co-authored numerous important publications and abstracts. He has been recognized each year since 2011 in D Magazine as one of the “Best Doctors in Dallas” which is an honor he has received by votes from his peers.
