I met Dr. Nicholson back in January at a seminar he had that both my husband and I attended when we decided that we would both have WLS. I appreciated Dr. Nick's straight shooting approach--there is no sugar coating with this man, because he definitely tells you like it is. He emphasizes that any sort of WLS is merely a tool you must use to lose the weight and that the surgery alone does not make you successful. In my consult, he was honest and laid out all the risks and benefits of the surgery I chose, and agreed that sleeve surgery would be best for me and my goals. If I had questions, he answered them clearly and honestly. He is very confident in his ability to help people surgically.

He emphasized the need for support from a psychologist and dietician and recommended a couple of folks that his office works with. I have been pleased with both of them, and have benefited greatly from their help through this process.

Dr. Nicholson is a caring and compassionate doctor who wants his patients to be healthy--that is my impression of him. He makes sure you are fully informed about the types of surgery available, the risks and benefits, and what life after surgery will be like. He has a great bedside manner, is very cautious, and is a fantastic caregiver. His office staff is also helpful, if a little slow to return calls but that is because they are super busy! I would recommend Dr. Nicholson to anyone considering bariatric surgery.

I can't tell you enough wonderful things about DR. Nick and his staff!. I went in May for my consult and Dr Nick advised me that the sleeve was the best and only surgery he would recommend. I was not a candidate for lap band because I travel too much and the bypass wasn’t an option either. So, we all agree the sleeve was the best option. His staff submitted all my paperwork to the insurance and two weeks later I got a call that I was denied. I cried for days! This was my only hope!
So I called the office back and asked for another consult with Dr. Nick to see if the band was even an option. When he walked in the room he said, “so what are we talking about today, I thought you wanted the sleeve”. I told him my insurance denied the claim and he stood up and said come with me. We went to the front desk he told his receptionist to get him the number to my insurance company and he would file the appeal for me. He said he would make sure I got my sleeve!! Two weeks later I was approved for the sleeve!
Dr Nick and his staff will go the extra mile for you! I am so happy with my sleeve. I had my surgery Aug 8th 2011 and Im down 70 pounds!! Thanks Dr. Nick!

When I first met Dr. Nicholson, my first impression was that he was younger than I expected, but full of energy and passion about weight loss surgery. He seems to really believe in what he's doing, and conveys a sense of caring towards his patients. He's definitely a "no BS" guy - he pulled no punches when he talked about the risks of surgery, but also about the risks of continuing on with life as an obese person. He told us that WLS is a tool - a great tool - but only a tool to help us change our lives. He went on to say that if we would commit to the entire package, including committing to the aftercare part of the deal, the tool would help us to succeed, and to change our lives.

When I started dealing with his office, I learned that many of his employees have had weight loss surgery themselves. This means they understand where you're coming from, and are very empathetic. The folks who handled the insurance qualification for me were great, kept me informed every step along the way, and I was able to get approval the first time we submitted. They know their stuff!

When I met with him for my consult, he again went over the details of the RNY procedure, the risks, and the long-term changes that it would require from me. I liked him even more, and was glad I'd done my research to find him.

Surgery was successful, and I had only minimal pain post-op. Really, only the largest of the incisions caused any pain, and Dr. Nick had told me it would be the worst one ahead of time. Both he and other members of his team visited me in the hospital afterward, and all of them were great.

I'm trying to think of anything negative about the whole experience, but I truly can't come up with anything. Dr. Nick is a great guy, and I'm extremely happy that I chose him to do my surgery.

When I first met Dr. Nicholson, I was very nervous and he set me at ease right away. He has a very calm and positive nature about him and is also comedic at times. He was also very honest in his siminar, explaining the good the bad and sometimes uglies of WLS. I would have to say that the only thing some may find \"offensive\" about him is his blunt honesty, which I tend to appriciate. Every time I saw him I became more aware of the obvious way he treats all of his patients. I never felt like he was belittling me, or degrading me because of my weight I only felt that not only he but his entire staff were there to encourage and support me. He has support groups and the offer an excercise program at their WLSC guided by Physical Therapists so you can learn how to work out the safe way. I would highly recommend Dr.Nicholson he also preformed a hernia repair for me. He is very competent in both surgical skill and fantastic bedside manner.

Dr. Nick did my wife's gastric bypass almost five years ago. She's dropped and kept off over 200 lbs.

He did my pet-sitter/friend's gastric sleeve a few months ago. She's down 60 lbs. She speaks very highly of him.

Dr. Nick did my gastric sleeve on 12/28/12. I'm down over 35 lbs. I lost 25 on the pre-op diet, and over 10 since surgery.

What an awesome surgeon!

I had researched WLS procedures and doctors for the past few years before deciding to go with Dr. Nick Nicholson (Nicholson Clinic, Plano, Texas). I am very happy I did. I actually met with Dr. Nick a year ago, but then wasn’t able to have surgery done. This year, when I met with him again for a pre-op office visit, he remembered who I was and what we had discussed the year before. Both visits with Dr. Nick were somewhat brief, but he did allow me to ask all of the questions I wanted. His office staff was able to speak with me further, and they remained available to me by phone or email.

On my surgery day, Dr. Nick met with my wife and I before I was taken into the OR, explained to my wife what he was about to do, and made sure we didn’t have further questions. I was told the following day that my surgery went very well (a reminder that the pre-op diet is done for a reason).

• I’ve been to Dr. Nick’s office a few times, and his office DID NOT have an “assembly line” feel to it. I had been to other offices when researching a doctor for this surgery, and some were so busy that they seemed to be trying to get as many people through as possible – not to discount their skills as doctors, just an observation as to how their offices felt.

The Weightloss Clinic at Baylor Plano works together to manage all aspects of your journey. From scheduling to nutritional counseling. Didn't feel the nurses listened about the uncomfortable bed or med needs but that could have been I was in so much pain with being off my RA meds.

I met Dr. Nic at a seminar in Plano at the Baylor Hospital there. When I met Dr. Nic, he was very funny but very truthful about which surgery would be right for us based on our eating habits.

I realized at a later time that Dr. Nic is a very busy man. His PA, Ms. Burns has been excellent in seeing me since the surgery. She is the nicest lady you will ever meet!

The office staff is very friendly, the chairs in the lobby are extra large so you dont have to wiggle your way into the small chairs at regular doctors offices.

There is nothing I did not like about Dr. Nic. He smiles a lot and seems to enjoy helping people achieve their goals.

I haven't really seen Dr. Nic except for at the seminar, pre-op and the day of surgery. My aftercare is with his PA, Ms. Burns. She is excellent and has a lot of time to sit with you and discuss your diet and nutrition and gave me advice on other ways to get my protein shakes down (this helped a lot)

I actually chose a different doctor but I couldnt get any calls back from them. The did not seem interested in having me as a patient. I looked up bariatric surgeons that took my insurance and he was on the list. I set up an appointment for the seminar, gave my insurance information and they were fast and very informative. I recieved many calls from their office as far as what I needed to get done for the insurance company and even set up my appointments and gave me names of doctors that deal with Dr. Nic's office. IT WAS GREAT!!!

I think that Dr. Nic is a competant doctor and has his bedside manner too! If I had to do it all over again, I would choose Dr. Nic 100% of the way.
