Truly one of the best in the field. I found this doctor to be very humble. And was able to explain every aspect of my up-and-coming surgery. In fact today I met a young medical student at my doctor's office at Brigham's and women's when I told that it was Dr SHiKORA she stated you got the best I'd watch him in surgery. I'm truly thankful to him and his team

The very 1st time I met Dr.. Shikora was In July of 1999. I was was being evaluated for surgery.I was approved and had surgery Nov 22,99. Well I did not like him and his bedside manner left alot to be desired. He did not take enough time with his paients but he was referred to me as the best by my Dr... and I drove 300 miles so I felt in time he would get better.Well I kept my follow-up appt's for awhile and then I said I feel fine why go.
Well in July of 2002 I couldn't hide the fact I was sick from my family any longer.I had to cal Boston and they got me In 2 days later. I met with Dr.Shikora andd things were totally different. We said how we felt got It out of the way and now we have a great realationship.I ended up having to have a gastric revision and It's been a struggle.I had It done In Oct on the 2nd. He told me It would be 3x worse as this Is my 2nd surgery.. Pain was not bad It Is getting my strength back but day by day.I would reccommend him to future paients. He lays the risks out on the table but the paient should ask questions also.Aftercare is very important to him,he already had a visiting nurse already lined up to come to my house after I got home. Yes there is a structered aftercare program. You see a nutrtionist, you see a therapist to talk about how your body is going to change and effects it will have on you, there is also a regular Dr. in case you need to see him.He has a wonderful that go out of there way to help you.I would rate him overall as a very through Dr. who weighs all the pros, and cons before doing surgery.Surgical competence, and bedside manner are both great and I feel Dr.Shikora has both these elements.

nurse all set up tto comeee to my home when I got here

Dr. Shikora what can I say about him. WELL he is the man his whole team are great!! Dr. Shikora helped me save my life I was approaching 400lbs and in a size 26 pants. I was not happy I had tried all the diets in the world, with out his help I could be dead right now. I had weighed 345 when I went into surgery a year later I went down to 187 and a size 12/14 that was the best that I think I looked since I was a child. My husband and I had tried to get pregnant for years and it just wouldn't happen after losing the weight a miracle happened I found out that I was expecting. We now have a healthy and happy little boy born 8/31/15. Since I have had the surgery 4 of my friends have also had it and have their own wonderful stories to share. SO with that being said 5 stars for Dr. Shilora and his team. :*

When I started my weight loss journey to prepare for weight loss surgery back in August of 2015, I knew I wanted to go through this major event at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The thought of surgery always scared me, but I knew that weight loss surgery would help me have the best chance for a healthier future. I initially chose Dr. Shikora based on hours of internet research. When I met him I was beyond impressed with his warmth, his honesty, and his sense of humor. He walked me through my weight loss surgery options, and I immediately felt comforted. He answered my questions honestly and clearly, and I never felt shamed or like "just another patient." Whenever I was discouraged about my weight/weight loss struggles, he motivated me in the most positive ways possible. On my day of surgery, November 16, 2015, he visited me beforehand to check in on me and ask me to decide if, should an RNY be too risky, I would want him to give me a sleeve gastrectomy (to which I said yes) - and that is exactly what happened. Starting when I woke up in the OR I noticed his bedside manner is simply incredible. During my 2-night hospital stay I saw him 2x each day - simply to check in on me, answer my questions, and keep me smiling - all signs that I selected the best surgeon for me! In truth, I was/continue to be blown away with the whole team at BWH - Dr. Davidson, all of the nutrition team, the nurses (esp on floor 15), the anesthesiologists team, and everyone I've encountered in Dr. Shikora's office. As of writing this I am 7 weeks post-op and I've never felt better in my entire life - I would highly encourage anyone even considering weight loss surgery to attend the information session, do some research on your own (this is your journey, after all), and meet with a surgeon at BWH (I highly recommend Dr. Shikora)!!

Dr. Shikora and the team at Brigham and Women's are dedicated professionals who care deeply about their patients. I felt welcomed from the start by everyone on the team. Dr. Shikora was patient and relaxed, which relaxed me. All of my questions were answered and I never felt that I was asking a silly or stupid question. I was guided every step of the way. I would recommend Dr. Shikora to anyone looking to have any kind of bariatric surgery.

Excellent surgeon. He did an amazing job and I will be forever grateful to have had the RNY done by such a skilled and confident doctor. He has since left Tufts Medical, but is still doing WLS in Boston, MA

My first impression of Dr. Shikora was a great one! He was very warm, caring and understanding. He did not go too fast when explaining the surgery process and made sure I understood everything.
My impression only changed for the better over time. The day of surgery he greeted me with a big smile and he stopped by my room 3 times post surgery.
The office staff at Tufts is AMAZING. Louise is awesome - Meghan is wonderful and Dr. Greenberg is great!
There is nothing I don't like about him.
Future patients should know that they are in the BEST of hands when Dr. Shikora is their surgeon. He is the Chief of Bariatric & General Surgery for Tufts and is the BEST in his field.
He emphasizes aftercare like you wouldn't believe - afterall it is THE most important part of this surgery journey.
Yes, the aftercare program is very structured. You have lifelong follow up appts. with your nutritionist, surgeon, psychologist and medical doctor.
Yes, Dr. Shikora fully explained all surgery risks.
I would rate Dr. Shikora a 100 out of 10!
Dr. Shikora's surgical competence is out of this world and his bedside manner is too.

Dr. Shikora was very professional, thorough, warm and caring in our initial consult. He took the time to explain the procedure and answer all our questions. His office staff has always made me feel that my questions deserved a thoughtful, reassuring response. Everyone at the Weight and Wellness Center at Tufts Medical Center is top notch! They are concerned about my total well-being, and I have experienced only the best medical, psychological and nutritional care since I met them in the April 2009. Their program is truly a holistic one that emphasizes the fact that this upcoming surgery is simply a tool towards becoming a healthier, more active adult, and emphasizes the importance of the after-care and follow-up. I have attended some of their monthly support group meetings pre-op and plan to continue post operatively. I am so priveleged to have this chance for a new beginning!
