Dr. Sharp saved my life! I was on a downward spiral with my health & lifestyle. At 321 pounds, the task was impossible & I knew that surgical weight loss was my only realistic option & my last resort. Dr. Sharp spent time with me, explaining the options, and we decided on the plan. Mandatory pre-surgery education classes were invaluable and Dr. Sharp regularly kept me in focus of the goals. When surgery day came, I was so ready to start my new life! And wow! What an amazing "rebirth" it was! The surgery was without complication and I had very few post op issues - mostly a mild nausea lasting seven days. Ultimately, I not only shed my weight (135 post-op pounds!) but many awful habits that I joyfully replaced with a newfound love of exercise and gardening. Dr. Sharp keeps us motivated after surgery with his love of the triathlon! I started training with his group & ended up completing my first "indoor triathlon" Jan 2020. I am also a nurse in the hospital where Dr. Sharp practices so I get to occasionally see him in the hallways and it is always a pleasure. Dr. Sharp has a gentle & confident way about him that always makes me feel comfortable. He was recently voted a "top 20 surgeons in the U.S." but he will always be #1 with me! Thank you for helping me through my transition, Dr. Sharp! I'm forever grateful.

2014 was a pivotal year for me as I had reached a weight of 302, diagnosed with Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Sleep Apnea, and other health issues. After trying many diet loss plans to fail at each one. Loosing weight, then when I stopped I gained. I decided to looking into Bariatric Surgery. Researching the different surgeries and then began my search for a practice. After many appointments I found Rex Bariatric and made my first appointment. Other practices seemed rushed trying to get me in and did not feel right. After meeting with Dr Sharp I knew this was the right practice. He discussed my options and how the program works and that we are patients for life. Along with Dr Sharp, Rex Bariatric has a team of providers making this a complete and structured experience. Rex Bariatric is very thorough in their process looking at all aspects of my health and preparedness for the surgery. October 14th 2014 Dr Sharp did my surgery as I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. This was the start of a new life and a new me. Post surgery I attended one of their support groups. What amazed me is that Dr Sharp and the other surgeons were there. We are patients for life and 6 years later I feel like a valued patient and know that they are there for me. I successfully lost 120 pounds and with their support and guidance I have been able to maintain a healthy weight rid of my Diabetes, High Blood pressure and sleep apnea. I have a new life and it is due to Dr Sharp and his practice. I have been so great full for Dr Sharp and this practice I decided to become a mentor and share my story and success with others researching this journey. Thank you Dr Sharp.

I met Dr. Sharp at the lowest point of my life. I was 54 years old, overwhelmed, exhausted, morbidly obese at five foot one well over three hundred pounds. As I got bigger my life got smaller. I never expected the impact that followed after meeting Dr. Sharp because I had given up on myself. My husband was determined that "if they could put a man on the moon, there had to be a doctor that understood obesity." We interviewed two other practices before we went to REX Bariatric Specialists and met Dr. Sharp and his partner Dr. Peter Ng.
Dr. Sharp was different right away. As we sat at our Bariatric Seminar and learned about the disease of Obesity, so many of the situations that I wrestled with daily such as non-stop hunger were explained and I began to feel myself breath. At the end of the surgeons' presentation, they had a patient speak so we could all hear about life after surgery and ask questions. My husband leaned over to me and said " They get you." I was still guarded but we had an early morning appointment with Dr. Sharp the following morning and I knew I would know when we were finished.
The next morning we came back to the practice and I was armed with my notepad and questions. My criteria were: surgeon, support, and education. I needed to know how Dr. Sharp and his practice would commitment to me, what kind of support, for how long and would they educate me over time? Dr. Sharp came in the room, sat down( no laptop) looked me in the eye, and said: " Cathy I want to help you, tell me your story." My husband and I were in that office for a while. No one had asked me any questions in years or looked at me. I walked out of that office with an emotion that I had not felt in so long that I actually didn't know how to explain it at first. HOPE. Dr. Sharp and his staff did everything they told me they would and so much more.
It has now been over eight years and I have experienced a lot of life since my surgery. My world is so different than that morning I walked into Dr. Sharp's office but he is no different. Dr. Sharp is a man of high integrity and always a positive word that lifts my spirits no matter what my situation. I worked very hard with him to lose all of my weight (150+) and I have stumbled but recovered to keep it all off. Having weight loss surgery was the hardest and best decision I have ever made with the help of the best surgeon, a husband that would not give up on me when I did, and the grace of God.
