I have decided that surgery is the best option for me...after a long time thinking about it. Like the thousands of others on this wonderful website...I have been overweight the majority of my life. At age 16 I can remember wearing a size 16 dress to my junior prom. I was a heck of a lot more active then though...lol...
Then as I got older and became less and less active, more and more serious in my career and graduate programs...I managed to baloon out to my highest weight of 330 lbs. I then joined weight watchers where I was able to lose a considerable amout of weight (got down to 270 lbs). Now here I am at age 30 and still very unhealthy. I weight approximately 315 lbs...on high blood pressure medications...depression...sleep apnea.
Kids is a big concern of mine. I want kids...but having abnormal periods and just being in this unhealthy state...I know to have kids now would be an unwise decision.
My father, even though I love him to death, he is someone who I do not want to end up like...grossly overweight...kneee problems...bowed ankles...severs typ 2 diabetes, heart failure, high blood pressure... He is out of breath just getting off the couch to answer the phone. He can barely breath and walk at the same time. Being the way I am now, I'm half way there...
This past May, after a annual physical with my primary, we both decided that yes I should pursue it! After checking with my insurance and researching different doctors in the area, I decided on Dr. DiBenedetto. After his first seminar in October 2007, I just fell in love with him.
I had my first consult with him on October 31, 2007. The month of November was just a whirl-wind of appointments (bloodwork, sleep studies, evaluations with the nutrationalist and psych). So here we are December 6, 2007 and I have another appointment with Dr. D on the 19th to go over everything before things are submitted.
When I'm not researching this decision to change my life, I love to crochet and spend time with my family, friends, and wonderful supportive boyfriend.
